(SOUTHWOLD TOWNSHIP, ON) –In the early morning hours of February 02, 1999 firefighters responded to a house fire at 11553 Wellington Road, north of the City of St Thomas. Upon extinguishing the fire, firefighters found the bodies of dairy farmer Roger SMITH and his common-law wife Wendy HAVERON.
The police investigation has revealed that the couple died as a result of blunt force trauma and the fire was deliberately set to cover up the murders.
A $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime was authorized by the Government of the Province of Ontario in November 2009 and remains available today.
Detectives from the Elgin County OPP detachment continue to investigate these murders under the direction of Detective Staff Sergeant Andy Raffay of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
