OPP CHARGE PENITENTIARY EMPLOYEE

(WARKWORTH, ON) On September 30, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated an investigation at the request of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) staff involving an employee who was suspected of smuggling contraband into Warkworth Institution over an extended period of time.

OPP investigators attended Warkworth Institution yesterday after being informed from Correctional Service of Canada staff that the male suspect, who has been employed at Warkworth Institution as a Correctional Program Officer, was searched and found to be in possession of contraband that he was attempting to smuggle in to inmates.

The OPP investigation is continuing.

Darrell FAIRMAN, 53, of Trenton, Ontario has been charged with one count of Breach of Trust under the Criminal Code and one count of Possession of Contraband contrary to the Correction and Conditional Release Act. The accused has been released on a promise to appear and an undertaking given to an officer in charge and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at 9:30 am.
