(BRIGHTON, ON) – Between 9:00 and 10:00 pm on Sunday March 16, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound near the Northumberland County / City of Quinte West boundary when two separate motorists were stopped and found to be in possession of speed measuring warning devices.
“Speed measuring warning device†means any device or equipment designed or intended for use in a motor vehicle to warn the driver of the presence of speed measuring equipment in the vicinity and includes any device or equipment designed or intended for use in a motor vehicle to interfere with the effective operation of speed measuring equipment. – Highway Traffic Act R.S.O. 1990.
At 9:19 pm David Huawei LI, 37 from Nepean, Ontario was operating a white 2011 BMW 28X when he was stopped by the officer and found to be in possession of a radar detector. The accused was served Provincial Offence Notices for drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device under the Highway Traffic Act and fail to surrender insurance card under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
At 10:01 pm Jean Madeline RIDING, 43 from Kingston, Ontario was operating a grey 2013 Hyundai Elantra when she was stopped and also found to be in possession of a radar detector. She was also served Provincial Offence Notices for drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device and speeding under the Highway Traffic Act.
The officer seized both devices.
The set fine for this offence is $140 with total payable of $170 and three demerit points attached to offenders drivers licence.
