(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – On Friday January 10, 2013 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people for impaired driving on County Roads.
At approximately 2:00 pm on Friday afternoon, an OPP officer stopped a 2001 Brown Chev Cavalier on County Road 28 in the Municipality of Port Hope that was observed facing southbound in the northbound lane. This vehicle cut out into northbound traffic as it was delivering newspapers and narrowly avoided a collision with an oncoming vehicle. The officer entered into an investigation on the driver and determined that he had been drinking alcohol and subsequently arrested the male for impaired.
Ronald Brooks COWAN, 63 from Hamilton Township has been charged with operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs blood alcohol content under the Criminal Code. The accused was released on promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday January 29, 2014 in Cobourg at 9:30 am. He has also been issued a 90 day administrative driver’s licence suspension.
At approximately 10:00 pm OPP officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot check on County Road 24 at County Road 25 when a 2005 grey Chev Cavalier approached the officers. A 63 year old female driver from Alnwick Haldimand Township was arrested at the scene for impaired, but details on the charges and court dates are not available at this time.
