OPP ARREST MALE FOR UNAUTHORIZED FIREARM

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Friday November 28, 2013 at approximately 1:25 am, a Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on routine patrol stopped a motorist to check for signs of impairment and found a firearm and crossbow exposed in the vehicle.

The OPP officer was travelling westbound on County Road 35 in the Municipality of Trent Hills when he encountered a Pontiac Grand Am that appeared that the driver may be under the influence of alcohol. The officer stopped the vehicle to check for impairment and upon approaching the motorist saw that there was crossbow and a nylon long gun bag in the rear seat and unspent ammunition in the front passenger seat. The officer conducted an investigation into the lone male driver and firearm and found that the male did not have the proper documents to be in possession of the firearm.

John WICOX, 45 from Greenbank, Ontario has been charged with one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm under the Criminal Code. The accused was released on an appearance notice to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton, Ontario on Tuesday January 7, 2014. All items in relation to the offence were seized by police.
