Do you think taxpayers should pay extra for a service, simply because the Old Boys Club like those providing the service? Most of you would define this as corruption. Is it morally correct to force the taxpayers to pay extra for roofing, cleaning, heating, or any other service, just because councillors are drinking buddies with the provider? Of course not, and criminal charges would likely be filed and resignations forced.
It was disclosed at the last budget meeting that they DID NOT consider the OPP for policing Wingham. Council and the Police Service Board all know that the OPP will be far cheaper, and would save the Wingham Taxpayers about $500,000/year.
They have not asked for a price from the OPP, and likely never will. If they did, it would force the issue, and they don’t want the Wingham Police to ever go away. The reality is they hope to expand the Wingham Police into Blyth and East-Wawanosh, and that will likely happen in the coming few years.

At the 23Mar2015 budget meeting, it was disclosed that the Wingham Police were awarded a 3 year deal. Over the next three years they will get a 2%, 2.5% & 3% increase. The Wingham Police cost the Wingham taxpayers over $1,000,000/year. This is one of the major causes of our horrifically high tax rate that has destroyed our Community.
Winghamites are forced to pay the men with guns 2X as much as we have to. If you don’t pay them, they will take your home and sell it. No wonder the Public refers to Council as Mobsters.
Winghamites will be paying an extra $1.5 Million over the next three years to keep the OPP away. Then we will call them for any serious crime, warrant execution, pursuit, K9, search and rescue, etc. Then when our Officers see how well equipped the OPP are, they will whine to get more toys, such as $10,000 for 6 carbine rifles, so they feel slightly less inadequate when they stand side by side with the OPP.
We are currently forced to pay $500,000 EXTRA every year just to have our Officers to keep the WPS shoulder patch, and logo on the cruiser doors.
With that $500,000/year savings we could put a fire suppression system in town hall, get the ESTC a generator, fix our leaky roofs, remove lead pipe from our water system, clean some sidewalks in the winter and open the trails, fill some pot holes, get the shoes off the overhead lines, FLIR cameras for the Fire Department, playground equipment, lower our tax rate, start some infrastructure reserves, etc etc. Those things aren’t a priority, but paying to keep the OPP away is, and it costs us $500,000/year and has destroyed our Community.
