(Napanee, ON)- On Sunday, June 26th, 2016, at 7:19 am, an off duty OPP officer reported a possible impaired driver travelling westbound on Highway 401 in Greater Napanee.
Officers with the Napanee detachment located the vehicle, a brown GMC pickup truck, still westbound in Tyendinaga Township. The truck was caught on radar travelling in excess of 50 km/h over the posted 100 km/h zone.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle with all emergency equipment activated however the vehicle continued. A rolling roadblock was conducted by police and the vehicle was stopped just east of Blessington Creek.
An officer attempted to arrest the driver, who was still in his vehicle, by grabbing his left arm; however the driver accelerated causing the officer to be pulled forward. The officer disengaged and was not injured.
Police followed the vehicle a second time and the driver refused to stop. Police stopped following the fleeing suspect vehicle due to public safety concerns.
Less than an hour later Northumberland OPP arrested the suspect driver after performing a rolling road block on the truck on Highway 401.
