(MUNICIPALITY OF GREY HIGHLANDS, ON) – On May 11, 2016 at approximately 5:26 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an unwanted person call at a residence on Lorne Street, Markdale, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands, after the suspect who had been drinking and verbally abusive towards the home owner refused to leave the residence.
An officer arrived at the scene and after a brief conversation the accused suddenly lashed out and committed a full out assault on the officer while attempting to gain access to the officer’s use of force weapons. The officer was able to subdue the male, who continued to be combative, with the assistance of additional officers who came to assist.
The initial officer on scene, a 29-year veteran with the OPP, was transported to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
The suspect sustained minor injuries. He was treated at hospital and released into police custody.
31-year old Steven GRECK of the Municipality of Grey Highlands was held for a bail hearing scheduled on May 12, 2016. He was charged with the following criminal offences:
– Assaulting a Peace Officer – Causing Bodily Harm
– Assaulting a Peace Officer
– Utter Threats – Causing Death or Bodily Harm
His next court appearance is set for June 23, 2016.
