Numerous Alcohol Related Charges In Dryden Victoria Weekend

(DRYDEN, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), both Dryden and Ignace Detachments conducted a total of eight R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driver’s Everywhere) checks over the Victoria Day weekend, but still charged three impaired drivers and attended several alcohol related incidents.

On May 20, 2016 a 17 year old Dryden resident was issued a 24 hour suspension. The Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of the young driver was above zero contrary to Section 44.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). Another youth in the same vehicle was charged with fail to occupy a seat with a seatbelt contrary to Section 106(3) (a) of the HTA.

A quantity of liquor/beer was also seized as none of the occupants of the vehicle were of legal age to possess alcohol.

On May 21, 2016 an 18 year old female resident of Ignace was arrested for not complying with conditions of her Probation Order. The female was out past her court ordered curfew and was also found to be breaching her court ordered condition of not to consume alcohol. She was arrested and released and will appear in court on July 13, 2016 to answer to the charges.

On May 21, 2016 a 14 year old resident of Sioux Lookout was arrested and charged with Driving while ability impaired and driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood contrary to Section 253 (a) & 253(b) of the Criminal Code. The female was also charged with Theft under $5000.00 contrary to Sections 334(b) of the Criminal Code, Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1) (a) of the Criminal Code, Fail to Comply with a Sentence contrary to Section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act and Assault a Peace Officer contrary to Section 270(1) (a) of the Criminal Code. The passenger of the vehicle, a 12 year female from Sioux Lookout was also charged with Theft Under $5000.00 contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code and Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under $5000.00 contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

On May 21, 2016 a 36 year old Thunder Bay man was arrested in Ignace after a complaint was received of an intoxicated male causing problems on the Greyhound Bus. The male was issued a Provincial Offences Notice for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place contrary to Section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act. The male was released from Police custody once he was sober.

On May 22, 2016 a 38 year old Dryden resident was charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood and Driving a Motor Vehicle while Ability Impaired contrary to Section 253 (a) &253e (b) of the Criminal Code. The male is to appear in court on June 6, 2016 to answer to the charges.

On May 22, 2016 an Ignace resident was found to be intoxicated and attempting to get into an apartment building on Pine Street. The male was charged with Enter premises when entry prohibited contrary to Section 2(1) (a) (i) of the Trespass to Property Act. The intoxicated male was placed in the care of family for the night.

Alcohol continues to be a contributing factor in many incidents for the both the Dryden and Ignace OPP Detachments.
