(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 217 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
May 25:
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. an officer investigated two suspicious males in downtown Brighton. Both were found to be intoxicated and were arrested for their own safety. One male was also experiencing a medical crisis and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The other male, a 21 year old local man, was taken to the Brighton detachment where he was held until sober the released charged with Being intoxicated in a public place.
Police responded to a noise complaint at about 11:00 p.m. in the area of Minifie Road in Hamilton Township. Officers located a large group of youths gathered at a home for a prom party noting that all had quietened down. No further police action was necessary.
Police attended a Garden Hill area residence in the Municipality of Port Hope for a residential alarm. All was found to be secure.
May 26:
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. an officer stopped a black sedan for speeding on Dejong Road in Hamilton Township. Both the occupants were found to be contravening conditions of a prior court release by associating with each other. Both were arrested and a subsequent search of the car revealed illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia. Sarah TAYLOR age 29 of Hamilton Township and Philip PEARCE age 30 of Grafton, Ontario are both charged with Fail to Comply with Recognizance (three counts) and Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – Cocaine. They have remained in custody with a next bail court appearance on May 28, 2018.
A 26 year old Campbellford woman was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking after initiating contact with her ex-boyfriend who is on conditions to not have any contact with her. She was released and is scheduled for an impending court date in June 2018. Name withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
A resident in the Municipality of Port Hope reported the sound of gunshots at about 5:30 p.m. An officer located two persons target practising at a property in the Campbellcroft area. They were cautioned for target shooting with an unsafe setup. No charges resulted.
A resident on Church Street East in Colborne reported his unlocked vehicle entered overnight. A GPS and battery pack were taken.
May 27:
Shortly after midnight an officer conducting a RIDE program on County Road 2 in Grafton stopped a black sedan. As a result of the ensuing investigation, Barry FEDERCHUK age 63 of Timmins, Ontario was arrested and charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 20, 2018.
An officer conducting radar enforcement on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope measured a white sedan travelling 155 km/h in the eastbound lanes. The driver, a 37 year old Ajax, Ontario man is charged with Racing a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence is suspended for the same period of time. The car was towed from the scene and he faces a future court date in July 2018.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. police responded to a collision between a truck and a car on Alma Street in Campbellford. After investigation it was determined that the truck driver knew a passenger in the other vehicle and reversed into the car for yet to be determined reasons causing extensive damages. The 36 year old local man was arrested and charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking and Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle (truck). No one was injured as a result of the collision which included a three year child in the car that was struck. The accused was released and faces an impending court date in June 2018. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim as this investigation was domestic in nature.
Northumberland OPP officers investigated six accidental 9-1-1 calls, twelve motor vehicle collisions, 60 traffic related complaints and conducted 20 RIDE programs over the weekend.
Northumberland OPP is asking for the public’s assistance with these ongoing investigations and would ask that anyone with information on these crimes call their nearest OPP detachment.
