(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past week, here are some examples:
Jan 30:
An officer conducting radar enforcement on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area measured an eastbound black Porsche SUV travelling 155 km/h. The 26 yr old North York, Ontario driver was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed and faces a court date in March 2017. Her vehicle was impounded for seven days and her driver’s licence was suspended for the same period of time.
An officer patrolling Scriver Road in Brighton stopped a red Dodge pickup truck for expired validation. A subsequent check revealed that the 43 yr old local man was driving while his licence was under suspension. The truck was impounded for seven days and the driver was charged accordingly.
A Hamilton Twp resident called police to report loud music from a home on Shortt St. Officers attended the area and all was quiet.
Jan 31:
A representative of a school bus company reported the theft of approximately 125 litres of diesel fuel sometime overnight from one bus that was parked in their lot located on County Rd 29 in Warkworth. An extension cord was reportedly stolen as well. Investigation ongoing.
Durham Regional Police requested OPP assistance in locating a man who had left a doctor’s office suffering a mental health crisis. Officers located the man travelling in a vehicle on County Rd 2 in Cramahe Twp. He was apprehended and taken to a nearby hospital for an assessment. His young son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was picked up by family members.
A suspicious vehicle was reported at a hydro sub-station lot on Pinnacle St in Brighton. Officers located the car and found the three occupants eating takeout food. No further action was taken.
Feb 1:
An intoxicated Port Hope resident called police requesting police assist him by being present while he picked up belongings from an ex-partner. Officers made arrangements for a future visit when he was sober.
An investigation was initiated at the Warkworth Institution after an inmate reportedly threatened an employee in the cafeteria.
A male attended the Cobourg detachment to show officers a video of strange lights he had taken two years prior. After speaking to the man, officers made a referral to a community mental health agency.
Feb 2:
A laundromat patron contacted police when they found themselves locked inside the building which locks automatically at night. Officers contacted an employee of the Campbellford business who attended and let the woman out.
Police responded to a report of family dispute in Campbellford involving an intoxicated man. Officer located him on his front porch apparently injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. While at the hospital the man became belligerent with medical staff and caused a disturbance. He was arrested by officers who were assaulted in the process. The 42 yr old man was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing scheduled the next day.
Police were called to a Hamilton Twp home for a family dispute involving a mother and son. Officers determined that the 35 yr old son was having issues following the house rules. Advice was provided and no charges resulted.
**Northumberland OPP officers investigated three accidental 911 calls, 11 motor vehicle collisions, 21 traffic related complaints and conducted six RIDE programs during this time period.
