Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

Feb 10:

A 58 yr old local man was charged with Driving While Under Suspension when he was observed to be operating a car on Doxsee Av in Campbellford

A 54 yr old Hamilton, Ontario man was charged with ‘Possession of contraband beyond the visitor control point in a penitentiary’ contrary to the Corrections and Conditional Release Act after attempting to smuggle tobacco into the Warkworth Institution.

Overdue teenagers caused a mother to request police check an address to ensure their arrival. Officers found them to be safe at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp residence.

Feb 11:

Police responded to a report of an assault that occurred on Grand Rd in Campbellford at 3:56am. A suspect was identified and when approached by the police, the man fled on foot. He was arrested after a short foot chase and taken to a nearby hospital due to his level of intoxication. No charges were laid at the request of the victim.

A 23 yr old Hamilton, Ontario woman was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. The Hyundai Accent, which was measured to be traveling 161 km/h, was impounded for seven days. Her drivers’ licence was also suspended for the same period of time.

A 911 call was placed from a Port Hope residence as a result of baby playing with a cell phone. Police would like to remind parents that any device capable of dialing 911 is not an appropriate toy for a child as it can risk the safety of those in the community who may need urgent help if a misdial occurs.

Feb 12:

Officers investigated 22 motor vehicle collisions throughout the County during a heavy snowfall, No serious injuries were reported.

A Trent Hills youth was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Fail to Comply with Sentence after an investigation into an altercation with another occupant in his home. The youth was held for a bail hearing. Name withheld.

Police responded to a domestic dispute at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where a couple were arguing over separation issues. Both were highly intoxicated and one partner left for the night. No charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated five accidental 911 calls, 37 motor vehicle collisions, 28 traffic related complaints and conducted four RIDE programs over the weekend.
