(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Officers from Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Mar 23:
– A Cramahe Twp woman reported receiving a call from ‘Merritt Travel’ saying that she had won a trip. The caller hung up suspecting a scam. She called the number back and realized the fraudsters had used her friend’s phone number.
– A Campbellford landlord requested police assistance getting into an apartment that was leaking water. Arrangements were made with the tenant who was sleeping at the time to have a plumber fix the leak. (10am)
– A Brighton resident contacted police when her ex-husband of 2 yrs started using her name on credit applications. Advice given.
– Fully engulfed vehicle fire 6th Line and Knoxville Rd Port Hope. The two occupants noticed smoke and pulled over. Mechanical issue, not suspicious.
– At 9pm police attended a Port Hope residence where a 17 yr old youth had overdosed in an attempt at self-harm. Officers assisted EMS who took the youth to a nearby hospital for treatment.
– Police were requested to check on the wellbeing of a 51 yr old Hamilton Twp woman who was possibly suicidal (9:30pm). Officers located her at an area motel and determined that she was upset over a recent divorce but not suicidal.
– Police were notified of a truck being repossessed in Cramahe Twp (10pm).
Mar 24:
– Young child dialed 911 from Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home causing two officer response, no emergency (9:12am)
– Hamilton resident ‘pocket dialed’ 911 when bending down to tie shoes causing two officer response (9:14am)
– Ongoing equipment issue with fax machine at Campbellford Memorial Hospital resulted in 911 being called causing two officer response (9:23am)
– A 30 yr old Colborne resident attended the Brighton detachment displaying deep red marks on his back and arm allegedly caused by his ex-partner. As a result of the investigation, a 27 yr old Cobourg woman has been charged with two counts of spousal assault. Names withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
– A Brighton landlord reported damage to his front door by an ex-tenant 10 yrs ago. A cursory check by officers revealed that the ex-tenant is now deceased.
– 37 yr old male requested police contact his mother and advise her of a recently diagnosed illness. Officers located the mother and advised her of son’s condition
– A 53 yr old Campbellford man facing three sexual assault charges was reported to have stopped his van in an attempt to converse with the victim who was walking on a Campbellford side street. He was arrested by officers and now faces two additional charges of breaching his release conditions by communicating with the victim and failing to notify police of an address change. He was held for a bail hearing. Names withheld.
– Police responded to a 911 call from a Bewdley home at 10pm. Officers were met by an intoxicated man who became aggressive and belligerent with police. His wife advised officers that she had been assaulted and choked by her husband during an argument. The 51 yr old man was arrested and faces charges of spousal assault and assault by choking. He was held for a bail hearing.
Mar 25:
– A Brighton home owner reported that someone urinated on his home
– A Cramahe Twp father contacted police about his 26 yr old son’s ex-girlfriend frequently calling the home. As per the father, officers advised the 25 yr old Quinte West woman to stop calling.
– A Colborne couple were heard arguing in their apartment. Police attended and separated the two for the day. No charges resulted. (10am)
– Three missing teens (all female) from the Ottawa area reported to be in the Campbellford area by Ottawa Police (11am)
– The three missing teens plus one local teen were arrested for shoplifting at a Campbellford grocery store ($38 of items). They were charged with Theft Under $5,000 and released to their group homes who returned them to the Ottawa area (12:45pm). The local youth was also charged and released.
– A single vehicle rollover reported on County Rd 35 at Woodview Rd Trent Hills (1:30pm). Five local area youths received minor injuries. All were wearing seatbelts. The driver, also a youth, was charged with careless driving.
– Stolen pickup truck reportedly taken from Colborne commuter lot sometime during the day. Ont. Lic. 5001WJ, 2003 Blue Chev Silverado ext. cab with black tonneau cover, Maple Leaf trailer hitch insert
– Child ‘playing a game on phone’ dialed 911 Hastings causing two officer response (4:30pm)
– Impaired driver (see full release) Port Hope (10:05pm)
– Impaired driver (see full release) Hwy 401 Hamilton Twp (10:15pm)
Mar: 26:
– Police were contacted by a Trent Hills man (12:30am) regarding an argument he had with his now ex-girlfriend. She was upset that she couldn’t stay the night at his residence after a dinner date. The 29 yr old Belleville woman then demanded gas money or she would call police and make a false accusation of assault. Officers spoke to both persons and cautioned the female (who had not called police) about her threats. No charges resulted.
– Break & Enter reported to a Theatre Rd Hamilton Twp home between 11:25am – 1:15pm. A 60” Sharp flat screen TV, 2 watches, silver/gold coins, and an engagement ring are missing. OPP Scenes of Crime officer attended and collected evidence. Investigation ongoing.
– Officers attended a Hastings home for an ongoing dispute between a brother and sister over their father’s home.
– 911 dialed in error when cleaning home (Cramahe Twp) causing two officer response (4:30pm)
– Police were called to the Campbellford Hospital for a violent 81 yr old patient. The man had calmed down by the time officers had arrived. No charges resulted. (8pm)
– Domestic dispute in Hastings involving a 70 yr old woman and her 68 yr old ex-boyfriend. Police advised the man that she wished to no longer have any contact with him. No charges resulted.
– Two siblings in their 50’s arguing over their late father’s estate in Hastings. Officers advised the brother and sister to use a lawyer to settle things.
Mar 27: (to 12noon)
– A 29 yr old Cramahe Twp motorist was stopped for speeding on Shelter Valley Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp (7:30am). He was found to be a suspended driver who had no insurance on his 2008 Mazda and was charged accordingly. He was also wanted on a committal warrant for driving while his licence was suspended. He was taken directly to Napanee Detention Centre to serve a 15 day jail sentence for that prior offence.
– A vehicle alarm reported inside the Bewdley Fire Hall. All was found to be ok, false alarm
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted two RIDE programs, investigated 16 motor vehicle collisions and 19 traffic related complaints.
