(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers dealt with a variety of calls this week, here are some examples:
Apr 27:
– Fax machine at Campbellford hospital dialed 911, ongoing issue causing officer response
– Report of 11 deer carcasses found in wooded area near Wesleyville/401 area. MNR notified and to investigate
– Motor vehicle collision eastbound Hwy 401 Colborne involving a 2014 Subaru and a tractor trailer (3:30pm). The 18 yr old male car driver from Toronto was charged with Following Too Close under the Highway Traffic Act. No injuries.
– A five yr old child playing with a phone dialed 911 from a Hamilton Twp home causing officer response (7pm)
– Police attended a Brighton area home where an intoxicated 21 yr old female threatened self-harm. (930pm) She had reportedly consumed a 26oz bottle of liquor that day. EMS transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment and a mental health assessment
Apr 28:
– At 12:15am police responded to Colborne home for a domestic disturbance. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a 49 yr old local woman has been charged with Uttering Threats to cause death (X3) and Mischief Under $5,000 (X2) in relation to a damaged vehicle and front door. She was held for a bail hearing. Names withheld
– Police received a report of a vehicle in the centre grass median on Hwy 401 eastbound two km west of the Brighton exit (3:30am). Officers located the uninjured driver who could give no reasonable explanation for his loss of control. The 28 yr old Oxford Station man was charged with Careless Driving and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
– Caller reported a car stopped in the middle of Covert Hill Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp (11am) and the driver unresponsive. The caller began CPR until paramedics could arrive. EMS, Fire and police attended however attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful. After investigation, officers determined that the 55 yr old local man succumbed to pre-existing medical complications and found no cause for further police involvement.
– A homeowner on Danforth Rd E Hamilton Twp reported the lamp post at the end of her driveway damaged
– Officers provided assistance to Cobourg Police Service in finding a missing three yr old child. The child was eventually located unharmed in his backyard.
– Owner reported a break in to a cottage on Robins Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp sometime over the winter. A fridge, cupboards, and TV are some items that were damaged. Investigation ongoing
– Police responded to a report of a suicidal woman threatening self-harm near a damn in Trent Hills (7pm). Officers located the uninjured female who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and a mental health assessment.
– Police responded to two domestic disturbances (Colborne 8:13pm & Hamilton Twp 8:14pm). Both incidents were deemed to be non-criminal in nature resulting in no charges. One male who had fallen down and ‘passed out’ in the driveway of the Hamilton Twp home was transported to a nearby hospital due to his level of intoxication.
Apr 29:
– A 28 yr old Trent Hills woman was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s licence on County Rd 8 Seymour Twp shortly after midnight. She was also found to be on a probation order for same offence. Charged accordingly.
– A resident on Concession Rd 9 Percy Twp attended the Campbellford detachment to report her dog (1 ½ yr old Maremma sheepdog) being shot with a 22cal rifle sometime on April 27th during the day. She advised officers that her property is 200+ acres which her dogs roam freely. Investigation is ongoing.
– Theft of a nylon coat reported by a Brighton downtown business (11am). Investigation ongoing
– Motorist on Hwy 401 Cobourg contacted police to complain about construction signs being left in areas where there were no workers present. Officers checked the signs to ensure they were not a traffic hazard.
– One parent contacted police when their ex-partner failed to show up for a child exchange at the Cobourg OPP detachment parking lot. Alternate arrangements were made after speaking to an officer
– Youths reported on the Grafton Public School roof damaging a vent (7:30pm). They had left prior to officers arriving. Investigation ongoing
Apr: 30: (to noon)
– Police were called to check on the well-being of a possibly suicidal male in Seymour Twp. Officers attended the address and found the elderly male to be in good health with no apparent thoughts of suicide
– A Seymour Twp resident contacted police to report that a collection company was contacting his wife’s family when they couldn’t get a hold of him. Advice was given to make arrangements with the company in question.
– 911 dialed by a patron at the Brighton YMCA while exercising on an elliptical causing officer response
– Theft of scrap metal reported from a farm property on Brighton-Cramahe Boundary Rd. Investigation ongoing.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted two RIDE programs, investigated 10 motor vehicle collisions and 25 traffic related complaints.
