(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past week, here are some examples:
Feb 13:
At the request of the Cramahe Twp bylaw department, officers stood by as three cars were towed from King St in Colborne to facilitate snow removal at 4:00am
Officers investigated a school bus and CP train collision on Townline Rd in Cramahe Twp with the assistance of CP Police. No injuries. (see full release)
Police responded to a report of a school bus carrying four students sliding into the ditch on 2nd Line Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. No injuries were reported and the bus wasn’t damaged.
Police responded to a domestic dispute where one partner reportedly turned the heat and water off at their Hamilton Twp home. Officers counselled the couple who are in the process of separating and ensured the services would be turned back on. No charges resulted.
Feb 14:
The Office of the Public Guardian and Trust requested police conduct a wellbeing check on an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident under their care. Officers found the individual to be well cared for and safe.
Police launched an investigation into the discovery of an edged weapon found during a routine search of an inmate’s cell at the Warkworth Institution.
Police responded to two domestic disputes in Brighton and one in Trent Hills all resulting in advice provided with no charges being laid.
Feb 15:
Report of damaged mailbox locks at Crowe River Rd and the 11th Line East of Seymour Twp. Investigation ongoing.
The Children’s’ Aid Society notified police of their concerns for the wellbeing of a Colborne mother they are working with. Officers determined that the female was experiencing depression but not considering self-harm.
Police provided traffic control on Telephone Rd in Hamilton Twp when a car became stuck in the snow while attempting a three point turn.
Feb 16:
Police attended the Campbellford Memorial Hospital in response to an aggressive and threatening patient. Officers assisted in the transportation of the male to another area hospital for a mental health assessment.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) assisted the Cobourg Police Service at the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision.
* A Hamilton Twp resident reported unknown footprints in the snow around her home on Oak Ridges Dr (near Benson Rd) that occurred between 10:00am and 1:00pm. The home was locked and not damaged.
**Northumberland OPP officers investigated six accidental 911 calls, nine motor vehicle collisions, 23 traffic related complaints and conducted seven RIDE programs during this time period.
