Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:

Sept 28:

– A concerned citizen attended the Brighton detachment with an elderly woman who he found wandering around town. Family members were located and picked the senior up

– A pedestrian was located walking on the side of Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. Officers escorted him from the highway.

– Police were advised of an adult arguing with a screaming child near a business on County Rd 28 and Hwy 401. A licence plate was obtained when the car left. Durham Regional Police visited the family on behalf of the OPP and determined that there were no safety issues after speaking with the child and her parents. The girl was apparently refusing to put on shoes when walking into the store. No charges resulted

– Police were called to a Campbellford home for a missing three year old child. The child was located a short time later giggling under some blankets on her bed.

Sept 29:

– Police responded to a domestic dispute in Colborne where a couple were arguing. Officers gave them advice, no charges resulted

– Officers provided advice to a homeowner in Port Hope when a roofing company returned and removed the newly installed shingles due to non-payment. Both parties were directed to the civil courts for compensation.

– A Hastings resident reported her car stolen. Officers confirmed that she had forgotten where she parked it and there was no theft.

– Police attended a Campbellford nursing home and assisted staff and EMS with an aggressive resident who was transported to a hospital for medical treatment

Sept 30:

– Officers assisted a father who was enforcing a trespass notice on his son at a Seymour Twp property

– A resident reported the theft of election signs from the front lawn of a County Rd 38 (Trent Hills) property sometime overnight.

– A bicyclist was reported on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. Officers attended and found that the cyclist had left the highway prior to their arrival.

– Police assisted EMS at a Brighton residence to ensure the safety of paramedics

Oct 1:

– Police responded to a house alarm in Cramahe Twp at 1:36am. Officers found the residence to be secured and no-one home.

– A Campbellford resident was contacted to clean a residence on behalf of a person representing himself online as the owner of a recent estate home in town. He forwarded a cheque to the caller in the amount of $4,500 asking that she cash it and send a large portion of the money to a moving company that he was contracting for his move. The caller became suspicious and attended her bank who advised that the cheque was fraudulent. She then contacted police who advised her that the ‘moving company’ was a part of the fraud designed to get money from her after she cashed the ‘cheque’ which she would have been responsible for after it was dishonoured.

– Police attended a Trent Hills group home and arrested/charged a 16 yr old youth with assaulting a worker. He was held for a bail hearing.

– Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Hamilton home where a separated couple were arguing over child custody issues. Both persons were told to seek advice from a family court lawyer and obtain a court order.

Northumberland OPP also investigated 37 traffic related complaints and 23 motor vehicle collisions.
