Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:

Oct 2:

– Police responded to a noise complaint at a Colborne apt building at 2:15am. Officers located a male sleeping on his couch, woke him up and advised him to turn the music down.

– Officers herded six cows from an area close to the roadway into their enclosure in Percy Twp

– Officers stood by to keep the peace as an ex-boyfriend removed his belongings from a Brighton home.

– Police responded to a report of several youths on the roof of a Brighton business on Oliphant St. The youths were gone when officers arrived and the business was secure.

Oct 3:

– A Hamilton Twp resident called police about a truck blocking his driveway on Cty Rd 45. Officers discovered the driver asleep in the truck and had him move his vehicle.

– A 48 yr old Seymour Twp man driving a Saturn Vue on Cty Rd 8 was stopped for an equipment offence and found to be under suspension. He was charged with that offence as well as operating without insurance and expired validation.

– An eastbound Acura was stopped in the Brighton area of Hwy 401for speeding. The driver, a 37 yr old Cambridge man, was found to be under suspension and was charged with that offence plus speeding 140 in a100 km/h zone and having open liquor in the car.

– Police responded to a report of a hydro pole across Cty Rd 21 Cramahe Twp due to high winds. Officers diverted traffic until Hydro One workers could attend and repair the pole and wires.

Oct 4:

– Several youths were spoken to by police for causing a disturbance in downtown Campbellford at 1am. No charges resulted

– Police attended a Cramahe Twp home where a couple were arguing about their child. They were separated for the night. No charges resulted.

– Police attended a Campbellford home where a couple were arguing about their relationship. They were separated for the night. No charges resulted

– Officers provided traffic control on Choate Rd in Port Hope when a tractor struck some hydro lines pulling them down. Hydro workers attended and made the area safe. The road was closed to traffic for approximately one hour

Northumberland OPP officers also responded to 13 accidental 9-1-1 calls, investigated five motor vehicle collisions and 38 traffic related complaints.
