Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past week, here are some examples:

Mar 6:

A resident on Mill St Port Hope reported damage to his mailbox sometime overnight.

A 44 yr old Trent Hills man was arrested and charged with Failing to Comply with conditions of an Undertaking after being found at a residence he was not to be near. He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released with an impending court date in April 2017.

An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident was provided advice regarding an incident involving another family member last weekend that resulted in no charges being laid.

Mar 7:

A homeowner on Hermiston Rd Trent Hills reported a break-in to his seasonal residence that occurred on Feb. 28. A 20 amp Mastercraft battery charger and a cammo coloured pop up tent were stolen. Police are attempting to identify two males observed on that date in the area at 6:00am. Both are described as Caucasian, 30yrs old wearing dark coloured winter jackets with a fur trim. One male is balding and has short dark hair wearing blue jeans and brown winter boots. The other suspect was wearing a Molson Canadian toque and brown & orange runners with orange laces. Investigation ongoing. ()

Police assisted a CAS worker in apprehending three children ‘in need of protection’ at a Cramahe Twp home.

A resident on County Rd 29 near Jewell Rd and Montgomery Rd reported his home being broken into sometime during the day. The culprit(s) forced a rear door open and stole a MacBook Pro (computer). Investigation ongoing. ()

As a result of a driving complaint on Hwy 28, a white Landrover was stopped near a business north of Hwy 401. A 21 yr old Etobicoke, Ontario woman was issued a three day licence suspension for registering a ‘Warn’ on a roadside screening device (50-80mg of alcohol). The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Mar 8:

At 3:30am police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home. A 44 yr old man fled the scene when officers arrived. He was arrested later in the morning at a Frankford residence and charged with Spousal Assault. He was released with an impending court date. Name withheld.

A Mazda and a school bus with no children on board lost control on ‘black ice’ while traveling on County Rd 64 in Brighton at approx. 7:00am. No one was injured no did any charges result in these two separate incidents.

Police attended a Campbellford residence in response to a domestic disturbance. Officers located an intoxicated couple arguing over going to bed for the night. One partner eventually agreed to spend the night elsewhere. No charges resulted.

Mar 9:

Police received reports of icy road conditions on Hwy 401in the Brighton area starting at approx. 3:30am. Two separate tractor-trailers slid off the highway into the ditches, one eastbound and the other in the westbound lanes. No serious injuries were reported.

An RV business on County Rd 28 in Port Hope reported the theft of a trailer sometime overnight. The trailer is described as a white & grey 2017 Forest River Work and Play” travel trailer
