Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week. Here are some examples:

Jan 25:

Two youths were given trespass notices to a Brighton business after attempting to steal items. Their parents were also contacted and advised.

Police are investigating two incidents of an internet provider’s cable being cut at a Campbellford apartment building which occurred Wednesday and Friday last week. Investigation ongoing.

A Raglan St home in Brighton reported being ‘egged’ sometime over the weekend

Jan 26:

Two investigations were initiated at the Warkworth Institution relating to an assault and a jail made weapon hidden in a cane.

Report of a lost blue/white ZEEKO hydrofoil surfboard (used for kite surfing) last seen at Presqu’ile Provincial Park mid December 2015 valued at $2,000

A Colborne resident reported receiving an email from a woman claiming to be moving into the area. She asked the resident to cash a cheque for her and to send her back most of the money. This was recognized as a fraud and police were contacted. No money was exchanged.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Port Hope home where a couple were arguing over unwashed dishes and video game playing. No charges resulted.

Jan 27:

Two investigations were initiated at the Warkworth Institution relating to found drugs and an assault.

Several calls received in the Campbellford area regarding overly aggressive alternative energy sales persons. Officers verified that their motives were not criminal in nature and advised them of the complaints.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an Alderville First Nations home. The ensuing investigation resulted in the male partner being arrested and charged with spousal assault. He was later released with an impending court date.

A blue 2004 Dodge Ram club cab pickup truck that was reported stolen from a Port Hope farm on Jan 25th was recovered in Kingston today. Investigation ongoing.

Jan 28:

Report of a suspicious vehicle on Jan 27th in the area of County Rd 30 and County Rd 26 in Brighton at 9:00am. It was described as a black SUV driven by a male of Asian descent in his 30’s accompanied by a female. The driver reportedly stopped and asked a youth walking along the road if he wanted a ride. The youth refused and told his parents the next day.

Police attended a Cramahe Twp home where a couple were arguing over one’s infidelity. No charges resulted and both partners agreed to stay calm for the night.

Officers responded to a male and female arguing at the Comfort Inn on County Rd 28 in Port Hope. Alcohol was a contributing factor and no charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP officers also responded to eight accidental 911 calls, investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions, 20 traffic related complaints and conducted 4 RIDE programs.
