(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week. Here are some examples:
Mar 4:
Two investigations were initiated at the Warkworth Institution. One involving a jail made weapon and the other was found drugs and contraband.
Officers responded to a Brighton park where an individual had driven his car into a wooded area in an attempt at self-harm. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries where he was to receive additional mental health treatment
Police responded to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp trailer park where a visitor had attempted self-harm by filling a trailer with noxious fumes. Responding officers pulled the individual from the trailer. He was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Fire officials ensured the trailer was not hazardous to surrounding residents.
Mar 5:
Report of males with rifles walking in the area of Cameron Rd Brighton. Officers located the males who were properly licenced and hunting coyotes. No further action was taken
A 38 year old Mississauga man was stopped for speeding on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. He was found to be bound by conditions of a prior release prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle. He was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance, driving while his licence was under suspension and speeding 148 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. He was held for a bail hearing.
A Hamilton Twp resident called police when she thought she heard footsteps outside of her residence. Officers attended and found no one in the area
Mar 6:
Police responded in Trent Hills to two mental health related calls in the early hours of the morning. One resulted in the individual being transported to an area hospital for treatment after he threatened self-harm. The other was alcohol related and was left in the care of a family member
Police attended a Brighton home where a resident had overdosed in an attempt at self-harm. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Four men were charged with trespassing on Hydro One property in the Marydale Park Rd area of Port Hope
Report of a car’s windshield smashed while parked on King St in Colborne
Mar7:
A 39 year old Hastings man was arrested and charged for Breach of Recognizance when he was stopped at a RIDE check on County Rd 45 in Trent Hills and found to be in possession of a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing
A resident on the 5th Line of Alnwick-Haldimand Twp reported damage to his mailbox yesterday caused by a red ATV. Investigation ongoing
A 48 year old Peterborough man was charged with Stunt Driving when his Mitsubishi was measured to be traveling 135 km/h in a 80 km/h zone on County Rd 28 Hamilton Twp. His car was impounded for seven days and his licence suspended for the same period of time
Mar 8:
An elderly dementia sufferer was found wandering in Brighton in her night gown at 6am. She was transported to an area hospital by ambulance as a precaution. The Alzheimer’s Society was contacted to provide assistance to the family.
Comments made on Facebook by a hospital worker in Campbellford were investigated by police after concerns were raised by management. The comments were not criminal in nature and no charges resulted. Officers advised the employee to vent her frustrations over working conditions through the proper channels rather than a public social media site.
Police were called to an address in Brighton when a taxi fare refused to put out a cigarette and not drink in the cab. The man exited the cab prior to police arrival.
Mar 9:
A Honda Accord was measured travelling 171 km/h on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. The 34 year old Belleville woman was charged with Stunt Driving, had her licence suspended for seven days and car impounded for the same period of time.
A Toronto area family member requested police check on the wellbeing of an elderly relative in Seymour Twp. Officers located the senior who advised he did not wish to communicate with that relative.
Police attended an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where an adult daughter complained that her mother had cashed her support cheques. Officers determined that this had been a consensual arrangement to protect the caller from spending the money on drugs which could be changed if she so desired. Advice was given and no charges resulted.
Northumberland OPP officers also responded to nine accidental 911 calls, investigated a total of 18 motor vehicle collisions, 49 traffic related complaints and conducted 21 RIDE programs.
