Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week. Here are some examples:

Mar 14:

Report of graffiti at Smithfield Public School as well as a nearby truck, mailbox and speed limit sign on Drewery St sometime over the weekend. Further reports of several street signs on Smith St also spray painted. Investigation ongoing

A Brighton resident reported losing $1,000 after clicking a pop up screen offer on his computer. The link offered stocks for sale. He provided his bank account and credit card information then realized he was defrauded

Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Hamilton Twp home. As a result of the ensuing investigation, the female partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. She was held at the Cobourg detachment until sober then released with an impending court date. Names withheld

Mar 15:

An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident reported being defrauded of $1,300 when answering an online advertisement for a rental unit in Toronto from an overseas company. Investigation ongoing.

Report of a break-in at the vacant South Cramahe Public School. Windows and old monitors were smashed. Investigation ongoing.

Police attended an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home for a domestic disturbance where one partner was threatening self-harm. That partner had left prior to police arriving but was located at another residence where it was determined that he was not serious about the threats. No criminal charges resulted.

An investigation relating to the discovery of a jail made weapon was initiated at the Warkworth Institution

Mar 16:

Police attended a domestic dispute in Colborne. As a result of the ensuing investigation, one partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault and Mischief Under $5,000. She was released with an impending court date. Names withheld.

A resident in Campbellford requested police check on the wellbeing of a neighbour. Officers located the senior who had fallen down and was disoriented. She was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Police were called to a Brighton home when a resident reported seeing people and dogs in the house. Officers determined that the resident was experiencing hallucinations and left her in the care of family members.

Mar 17:

A Campbellford resident contacted police after finding his wallet which he had reported stolen yesterday. He advised that he had simply forgotten where he had put it.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home. One partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault and assaulting a police officer. He was held at the Brighton detachment until sober, then released with an impending court date. Names withheld

Report of a pickup truck traveling 100 km/h on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area with a blown tire. The caller advised that when exiting at the Lyle St exit, both rear tires were torn off with the truck driving on the rims. Police located the vehicle at a Grafton residence and arrested the driver for impaired operation. He was taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Dylan SHARP age 24 of Grafton is charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood and Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 6, 2016.

Northumberland OPP officers also responded to six accidental 911 calls, investigated a total of nine motor vehicle collisions and 26 traffic related complaints.
