Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week. Here are some examples:

Mar 21:

Four motor vehicle collisions from 8:30-9:20am on Hwy 401 Port Hope area. Black ice was a contributing factor. No serious injuries.

Graffiti reported at King Edward Park in Brighton. Vandals used silver spray paint to deface park benches, the splash pad and the skate park. Investigation ongoing. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Brighton detachment at 613-475-1313 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Police attended a Campbellford home where a resident reported his clothes line tampered with citing an apparent disagreement over the property line with his neighbour. Both were advised to seek assistance from the Municipality and no charges resulted.

Mar 22:

A resident on Edge Water Dr Brighton reported his outside water tap being turned on sometime overnight. No damages occurred.

Police responded to a Percy Twp home where a male had intentionally overdosed on medications in an attempt at self-harm. EMS transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Report of a white SUV tail gating other vehicles on Hwy 401 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. The vehicle was located and the driver was cautioned about his driving habits.

Mar 23:

Theft of six 12 volt batteries taken from a portable message sign on Hwy 401 westbound east of Boyce’s Bridge overpass in Cramahe Twp. Occurred in the past few weeks, estimated value $3,000. Investigation ongoing.

A Campbellford parent reported her son being assaulted by another teenager resulting in medical attention being required. The 18 yr old male suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and breach of a probation order. He was released with an impending court date. Names withheld.

A Colborne resident reported receiving harassing messages from an acquaintance that he met on an online dating site. The other subject was spoken to by police and cautioned to stop communicating with the caller. No charges resulted.

Mar 24:

Several motor vehicle collisions and traffic related complaints throughout the day. Contributing factors included icy road conditions and motorists not adjusting their driving to those conditions.

Report of a child threatening self-harm in Campbellford. Officers transported him to an area hospital for treatment.

Police were called to a Brighton home where two adult sisters were fighting. Alcohol was a contributing factor. Both agreed to go to bed and no charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 15 accidental 911 calls, 26 motor vehicle collisions and 26 traffic related complaints.
