(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Apr 1:
An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident contacted police distraught over the loss of his cat. Advice was given to the caller who had been drinking.
Report of a 2004 green Honda ATV (with plow) stolen from a garage on River Road in Seymour Twp sometime overnight. Ont Lic. 74FL4, investigation ongoing.
Officers responded to a domestic dispute at a Port Hope residence where a female was visiting her ex-boyfriend. Her current boyfriend attended the residence at which point police were called. All parties were spoken to and no charges resulted.
Apr 2:
An intoxicated son returned to his Colborne area home at 2:00am at which point an argument ensued with his parents. He threatened self-harm while reaching for cutlery in the kitchen. His father held him down until police could arrive. He was arrested for breaching the peace and taken to the Brighton detachment where he spent the night in custody until sober. No charges resulted at the request of family members.
Police responded to a 911 call at 4:00am from a Colborne residence where a couple were having an argument. Both parties had been drinking. No charges resulted and they were separated for the night.
A black GMC Sierra pickup truck was observed to be purposefully spinning its tires and fish tailing on Richardson St. in Brighton at 11:38am. The driver, a 33 yr old Brighton man, was found to be driving with a suspended licence. He was charged accordingly as well as with Stunt Driving and other offences. His passenger, a 25 yr old Trenton man, was found to be wanted by Quinte West OPP on outstanding warrants. He was arrested and turned over to officers from that detachment. The truck was towed from the scene and impounded for a period of 7 days.
Apr 3:
Police initiated an investigation into a domestic dispute at 2:23am that occurred at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp residence that night. Officers were unable to obtain meaningful information from the two parties due to their level of intoxication. Investigation ongoing.
Police were called to a Brighton home at 3:23am where several persons were causing a disturbance. Officers observed several people on the front yard screaming at a dog that had run away. Alcohol was a contributing factor, everyone was spoken to and no further calls were received.
Police attended a Hamilton Twp home to keep the peace while a female collected her belongings from her ex-partner.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated three accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions and 20 traffic related complaints.
