Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:

Apr 4:

15 motor vehicle collisions investigated throughout the County today

A Hamilton Twp resident reported his handicap parking permit stolen

Police were called to a Trent Hills retirement home where one resident had thrown coffee on two others. No one was injured and no charges resulted.

A Brighton senior correctly recognized a fraudster identifying himself as a CRA representative on the phone. He promptly contacted police, no money or information given.

Apr 5:

Shortly after midnight, police received a complaint of a driver in a light coloured Honda Civic watching pornography on a dash mounted screen while traveling westbound on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. Officers were unable to locate the car.

Police attended a Brighton home for a family dispute at 7:13am. Everyone involved had consumed alcohol which was a contributing factor to the disturbance. One family member was arrested for breaching the peace and taken to the Brighton detachment where he was held until sober.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Port Hope home. As a result of the ensuing investigation, the male partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. He was released with an impending court date and conditions to stay away from the family home and not communicate with those involved.

Apr 6:

Police investigated a family dispute in Brighton involving rude comments made on a social media site between family members. The comments were deemed not to be criminal in nature and no charges resulted.

A seasonal property owner in Hamilton Twp reported observing (via video feed) two suspicious vehicles parked near his home. Officers attended and determined that they were contractors working on the neighbouring home.

Police received a 911 call from a miniature horse owner in Hamilton Twp who was chasing two of her animals that had broken free from their enclosure. She cancelled officers when she had corralled them however police were required to attend as per OPP policy. All was found in order.

Apr 7:

Complaint of persons ringing a doorbell at 12:38am on Janes Ct in Colborne. Officers were unable to locate the persons responsible.

A resident on Telephone Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp reported a vehicle had damaged his mailbox, front lawn and 911 sign sometime this morning. Investigation ongoing.

A patron at a Colborne business reported an intoxicated male in the backseat of her parked car. The male had left the car when asked and was located by officers lying on the roadway. He was transported by EMS to an area hospital for treatment and observation.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated three accidental 911 calls, 22 motor vehicle collisions and 32 traffic related complaints.
