(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Apr 18:
Two suspicious males wearing ski masks reported in a fenced yard of a business on Purdy Rd in Colborne at 1am. The males had fled prior to police arrival. Investigation ongoing
A 19 yr old man was charged with having open liquor in the parking lot of a business on Grand Rd in Campbellford
A lost and confused elderly motorist was escorted home by officers from the Dale Rd Hamilton Twp area
Apr 19:
Hwy 401 westbound was closed to traffic for 45min at 8:20am for a car fire at Vernonville Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Cramahe Township Fire Dep’t attended and extinguished the fire, no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
An ATV owner reported its theft from a County Rd 45 property in Hamilton Twp sometime over the past six months. A red 2003 Suzuki L5F Ont. Lic. 97DV4 VIN: JSAAM44A932105190. Investigation ongoing
Reported domestic disturbance involving loud yelling and threats at a Brighton residence. When officers arrived they located a lone male in the home yelling at his pet parrot who according to him was ‘beeking off at him’. Alcohol was involved.
Apr 20:
Police attended a Seymour Twp home where a young couple had been residing with ones’ parents. Officers assisted a woman retrieve her belongings as a result of a separation with her boyfriend. No charges resulted and the items were picked up without incident.
A complaint of an ex-boyfriend harassing a Hamilton Twp woman. Officers determined there were no grounds for criminal charges and the male was warned to cease any further communication.
Traffic enforcement on Hwy 401 at Hurley Rd in Cramahe Twp conducted by OPP Highway Safety Division and Northumberland Traffic Management Unit, 28 speeding charges laid
Apr 21:
Police provided traffic control on Lakeshore Rd while Port Hope Fire Dep’t dealt with a large grass fire.
Report of two suspicious males claiming to work for ‘Trent Hills Water Dep’t.’ asking for permission to enter residences. Municipality advised they do not have employees doing this.
Police attended a Hamilton Twp home where an adult son advised that he had been locked out of the house as a result of an argument with his father over non-attendance at school. Officers counselled the family members resulting in the son spending the night elsewhere.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted two RIDE programs, investigated seven accidental 911 calls, 14 motor vehicle collisions and 25 traffic related complaints.
