(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
May 30:
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Cramahe Twp home at 4:00am where a couple were arguing over one of them being out all night. No charges resulted and they were separated for the day.
EMS requested police attend a Cramahe Twp home where a young mother was experiencing a severe medical issue possibly leaving her with no-one to care for her young child. Paramedics determined that she was able to continue supervising her child and transported both family members to a nearby hospital requiring no further police assistance.
Report of a grandfather requesting police remove his adult grandson from his Campbellford home. The male left on his own once police arrived.
A Brighton resident requested police remove an ex-girlfriend who showed up uninvited. Officers provided her with a ride to her parents’ home. No charges resulted.
May 31:
Theft of a bicycle and a roast from a fridge reported from a Port Hope residence. Investigation ongoing
Police provided assistance at two structure fires. One at a business on County Rd 45 in Hamilton Twp and the other, a cottage in Trent River Village in Seymour Twp. No one was injured in either of these incidents and both were deemed not suspicious in nature.
Officers had to intercede at a family dispute in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp when ex partners and current partners started arguing over children’s birth certificates. All were directed to the Family Courts for a resolution.
Two family disputes involving issues with teenaged sons, one in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp and the other in Port Hope. Both resulted in the boys temporarily staying with other relatives.
Jun 1:
A man on a bicycle was spoken to after reports were received that he was riding on Hwy 401 near Gully Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. He was cautioned for being on the highway and given directions for a more appropriate route eastbound.
Officers assisted a Brighton resident with a disability getting in contact with his lawyer for advice on a family related matter
Police provided traffic control on Hwy 401 east of Grafton when a tractor-trailer caught on fire. No injuries were reported. All lanes of the highway had to be closed temporarily due to heavy smoke hampering visibility for motorists and the safety of emergency services at the scene.
Domestic disturbance in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resulted in one partner being taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for mental health issues
Domestic disturbance in Alderville First Nations over separation and property issues. Advice was given and no charges resulted
Report of 14 live chickens stolen from a property on County Rd 50 in Seymour Twp at 7:00pm. The owner reported seeing two males approx. 30 yrs old in a black pickup truck fleeing southbound with a yellow crate containing the birds. Investigation ongoing.
Jun 2: (to 1:00pm)
Report at 4:00am of a deer carcass in the middle of County Rd 45 Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Police notified the county roads supervisor to attend and remove the animal. Officers observed several coyotes nearby.
Two reports of a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) scam. A Hamilton Twp resident recognized this as a fraud and lost no money. A Percy Twp resident provided $2,500 to the fraudsters after being instructed to purchase iTunes cards and give them the serial numbers allowing access to the funds. Police continue to remind the public that the CRA does not collect outstanding taxes with threats of imminent arrest or removal of children from a home as was the case in this incident. Northumberland OPP officers also investigated seven accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions and 31 traffic related complaints.
