Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 421 incidents this past week, here are some examples:

Jun 2:

A beige Chev Colorado pickup truck was observed to turn around from where police were conducting a RIDE program on County Rd 45 near Baxter Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp at 8:26pm. Officers caught up to the truck and a subsequent investigation led to the driver being charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. Holly CROWE age 54 of the same township was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 22, 2016.

Jun 3:

Theft of solar lights reported from a Perry Ave front lawn in Brighton overnight that change colour and are shaped as butterflies, dragon flies and birds.

Police responded to a domestic dispute in Colborne where one partner had put the others’ belongings at the end of the driveway. Both persons were spoken to and arrangements were made to have the items moved to a safer location. No charges resulted.

Report of a black Buick SUV being driven by a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle in the parking lot of a business on County Rd 45 which sells among other things, liquor and beer. The driver was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Amber BUTLER age 41 of Oshawa, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 29, 2016.

Jun 4:

Police responded to reports of a large and loud party on Charbrook Cres in Hamilton Twp. Officers remained in the area as partyers dispersed.

Report of a black VW hitting a hydro pole on Bridge St West in Campbellford at 3:23am. The driver fled the scene. The car was reported stolen six hours later by the owner and the investigation is ongoing.

Noise complaint received from a Bewdley area home. Officers located the source of the loud music in a nearby home which was being controlled via cell phone from a boat on Rice Lake. Police cautioned the boater who stated that he simply wanted to hear his music out on the lake. No further calls were received.

Jun 5:

Several persons were asked to leave Pinnacle Park in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for disruptive behaviour.

Police spoke to a separated Campbellford couple when one complained about a custody issue. They were advised to obtain advice from a family court lawyer

Report of persons on the Deer Park Rd overpass of Hwy 401 in Port Hope throwing eggs at passing motorists at 9:50pm. Officers were unable to locate the suspects. No damages were reported.

Jun 6:

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance in Port Hope at 4am where alcohol was a contributing factor to the argument. One partner left the residence and no charges resulted.

A business on Craig Blvd in Brighton reported a rock thrown through the front window sometime overnight. No entry was gained

The Hamilton Twp office reported damage to the buildings’ eaves trough sometime over the weekend. Several pylons were also placed on Jamison Road, along with a no exit sign by the culprits

Campbellford Public Library reported damage to the buildings’ eaves trough with broken beer bottles strewn about.

Several reports at 6:15pm of a young female straddling the railing of the Ontario Street overpass of Hwy 401 Cobourg. When police arrived, citizens had pulled her away from the edge and were keeping her safe. She was transported to a nearby hospital by EMS to receive treatment.

A Port Hope resident called police about a property line issue with his neighbour. He was advised to contact the Municipality.

Police responded to a family dispute in Brighton. As a result of a conversation with the parent, officers found her son a safe place to live as he was not welcome back home. Services and supports were engaged for this young person.

Break and enter reported to a Forest Dr Brighton home. Entry was gained through an unlocked interior garage door and a quantity of jewellery was taken. Investigation ongoing

Jun 8:

The Oak Ridge Springs Water plant on County Rd 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp reported a break into their building sometime overnight. The offices had been ‘ransacked’ with unknown items taken. Investigation ongoing.

A Cramahe Twp resident reported a male picking asparagus on his property. The individual was spoken to by police and cautioned for trespassing.

A traffic stop on Sanford St Brighton resulted in a 38 yr old local female being charged with driving while her licence was under suspension.

Jun 9:

Hydro One reported ongoing issues with persons shooting the insulators on their hydro towers in the area of Turk and Bowmanton Rds in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp.

A grey Mazda was stopped on Young St Brighton at 4:00am. The 39 yr old local man was found to driving while under several licence suspensions. His car was impounded for a 45 day period as per the suspension orders. He faces several provincial offences and two criminal code charges, all related to driving.

Police, Cramahe and Alnwick-Haldimand Fire Dep’ts responded to a vehicle fire involving a 2009 Ford Focus west of Colborne on Hwy 401at 6:49pm. The lone occupant noticed smoke coming from his glove compartment and pulled over safely exiting the car without injury. The car was completely destroyed in the fire. A lane closure was in place for approx. one hour. The cause of the fire is unknown but deemed to not be suspicious in nature.

**Notable Incidents: Northumberland OPP investigated 11 accidental 911 calls, 24 motor vehicle collisions, and conducted 12 RIDE programs.
