Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of incidents this past week, here are some examples:

Apr 10:

Police responded to a report of a break in at 1:12 a.m. to the Northumberland Waste Management Facility located on Edwardson Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. The culprit(s) broke a rear window, entered the premises and damaged two vending machines. Nothing was apparently taken and the investigation is ongoing.

Police attended a family dispute at a Brighton home when an adult daughter threatened her mother and then attempted self-harm. Officers apprehended her for her own safety and that of her mother’s. She was taken to a nearby hospital for an assessment. No charges resulted.

Police attended a Port Hope residence in response to a 9-1-1 call. Officers determined that there was no emergency and were advised that a cat had jumped on the home phone causing the call to police.

Apr 11:

Police are investigating the theft of a steam cleaner from the Comfort Inn located on County Rd 28 in Port Hope that occurred on April 10th at 4:10pm. Investigators are attempting to identify a female suspect described as Caucasian, 5 6 wearing dark coloured pants and sweater last seen driving a pickup truck. Investigation ongoing.

A Hamilton Twp resident reported meeting a male on an online dating site last month. That male stated that he was working in India and asked her to facilitate a transfer of a large sum of money from his account to another account in Bangkok which she did. A short time later the male contacted her stating that he had reached his transfer limit and asked her to transfer her own money as a loan to him ($279
