(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 197 incidents over this three day period, here are some examples:
Sept 6:
East Northumberland Secondary School reported the theft of three digital projectors stolen sometime over the summer break. Brand names are Benq -Model MX850UST, Smart – Model 0F75 and iRover – Model MP610S.
Police were notified of a Quebec resident in the area threatening self-harm. Officers located her on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area and transported to a hospital for mental health treatment.
Police responded to a noise complaint involving fireworks throughout the day on Lakeshore Dr in Hamilton Twp. Officers conducted patrols and all was quiet.
At 9:21pm police received a report of a silver Mercedes driving erratically south on County Rd 30 in the area Codrington. An officer located the car traveling southbound in the northbound lane towards the officer. The car was stopped and when the driver exited, he left the car in gear causing it to roll forward striking the cruiser. Numerous containers of liquor were located in the car. As a result of the ensuing investigation, Robert POPLE age 52 of Port Hope, ON is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle, Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle and Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available. He was released when sober and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 5, 2016.
A break in reported to a Brighton residence on County Rd 30 near County Rd 29 sometime between 7:00am and 7:00pm. Items stolen include a PS3 game system with 20 games, jewellery, gold watch and a Makita cordless drill. Investigation ongoing.
Sept 7:
A Hamilton Twp resident called 9-1-1 to check whether it was garbage day. Officers ensured there was no emergency and cautioned her for misuse of the emergency number.
Report of a black utility trailer on Majestic Hills Dr Hamilton Twp being broken in to overnight. Approximately $4,000 worth of tools were stolen including three air nailers, a generator, a reciprocating saw, 300’ of extension cords and a Dewalt radio.
A ten yr old Brighton child dialed 9-1-1 when his parents became involved in a heated argument. Officers counselled both adults and no charges resulted.
Police attended a Brighton home for a domestic disturbance that resulted in one partner being arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. Names withheld.
Sept 8:
Police assisted the OSPCA in executing a warrant at a Mill St Hamilton Twp home where two cats were seized.
A Campbellford resident reported the loss of $1,000 when contacted by a fraudster representing the CRA. The victim purchased iTunes cards from a drug store and a convenience store while remaining on the (cell) phone with the scam artists. She was told not to tell anyone why she was buying the cards and provided the PIN numbers to them upon purchase. She was in the process of buying further iTune cards from another drug store when she noticed a warning sign about this fraud posted above the cash register. At this point she recognized that she was being defrauded and reported it to police.
Report of a Trent Hills home on the 9th Line West of Seymour Twp being broken in to between 7:00am and 2:00pm. A TV and jewellery were among the items stolen.
Report of a Brighton home on County Rd 30 near County Rd 29 being broken in to between 9:45am and 4:30pm. A laptop, pearl neckless, antique bracelet and other jewellery were among the items stolen.
An officer on general patrol observed a gold Chrysler Intrepid being driven erratically on the 11th Line East of Seymour Twp at 9:23pm. The driver was found to have been drinking and was arrested. Jesse Michael GRATTON age 26 of Seymour Twp, ON is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was held for a bail hearing scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 9, 2016.
**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated nine accidental 911 calls, 11 motor vehicle collisions and 26 traffic related complaints during this time period.
