(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 320 incidents over this four day period, here are some examples:
Sept 19:
Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home resulting in one partner being arrested and charged with Assault causing bodily harm. The victim sustained serious injuries. The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit is assisting with the investigation.
A Hamilton Twp resident reported that trees on his property had been cut down by Ontario Hydro workers. He was advised to contact them directly with a complaint.
Report of a break in to a residence on County Rd 30 near Old Wooler Rd in Brighton. The culprit(s) forced open a side door and stole a red wooden musical jewelry box engraved ‘Nana’, a quantity of jewelry including a ladies blue sapphire ring with 12 small diamonds and a men’s gold wedding ring engraved ‘B S’
Police responded to four domestic disputes throughout the County involving child custody disputes, separation issues and property disputes. Police would request that If only looking for advice of this nature to consider consulting a family court lawyer first.
Sept 20:
Police responded to a family dispute in Bewdley resulting in an adult step son spending the night elsewhere. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
Report of two vehicles ‘egged’ sometime overnight on Dufferin St. in Brighton
Police assisted an elderly couple in the Campbellford area who dialed 911 to report being swarmed by hornets in their home. Officers contacted an exterminator who attended and discovered a large nest in the attic. The couple were not injured despite one of them having an allergy to bites of this type.
Police investigated a complaint of a domestic dispute between separated partners that occurred days earlier in Brighton. As a result, one partner was arrested for Spousal Assault and released with an impending court date.
Sept 21:
Report of mischief at the Memory Junction Railroad Museum in Brighton. Windows and a door were damaged.
Police attempted to locate an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp man who had missed several appointments with his Probation officer. Officers did not locate the man who is now under investigation for breaching his conditions.
A Port Hope business reported that after an online order worth $6,500 was sent to Quebec, the credit card that was used as payment was cancelled. Investigation ongoing.
A community service club in Hamilton Twp reported receiving several emails apparently from a club official authorizing payments of $2,600 to a third party. Upon checking with that official, it was discovered that the emails were fraudulent. No money was lost.
Sept 22:
Noise complaint of loud machinery at 1:30am in Colborne. Officers located a business that had their large bay doors open due to the heat. Workers complied and closed the doors. No further complaints received.
Police responded to a disturbance call at a Campbellford rental unit resulting in two adults being taken by EMS to the hospital due to their levels of intoxication.
A 35 yr old Alnwick-Haldimand Twp man was stopped at a RIDE program at the Port Hope Onroute service centre and found to be breaching a condition of an earlier release that stipulated no alcohol consumption. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing.
**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated eight accidental 911 calls, 11 motor vehicle collisions, 40 traffic related complaints and conducted four RIDE programs during this time period.
