Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 329 incidents over this four day period, here are some examples:

Sept 26:

A partially clothed man showed up at a Hamilton Twp residence. Officers responded and transported the man to hospital for treatment with his mental health illness.

A Baltimore area resident on County Rd 45 near Van Luven Rd reported his unlocked vehicle entered and items taken sometime overnight.

Police assisted a homeless man located in Brighton by providing temporary housing for the night.

Police responded to a family dispute in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp that began with a son missing the school bus. Officers provided advice to family members and assisted in getting the youth to school.

Sept 27:

An elderly patient at an area hospital dialed 911 to report that she was locked up and requested police assistance. Officers located the caller in her hospital room not in distress and determined that she suffers from mental health issues.

A Hamilton Twp resident reported his neighbour’s fencing in poor repair causing livestock to wander off the farm. Officers advised the caller to contact the Township and the OSPCA with a complaint.

A Trent Hills youth was charged with two counts of Uttering Threats, Mischief Under $5,000 and Failing to comply with a recognizance after an investigation into a complaint at his home.

A Campbellford child dialed 911 after being taught about the use of the emergency system at school today. Officers determined there was no emergency and spoke to him about the proper use of the emergency line.

Sept 28:

EMS requested police assistance at a medical alarm in Hamilton Twp in the event that access into the home was required. Police found a family member on scene already assisting the elderly relative who had fallen down.

A visitor at the Baltimore arena reported the theft of his wallet and iPhone from his unlocked car at 9:00pm.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) assisted the Cobourg Police Service at the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision in Cobourg.

Police located the owner of two horses found wandering in the area of Godolphin Rd in Trent Hills.

Sept 29:

Police responded at 3:00am to a break-in at the ‘Almost Perfect Grocery Store’ located on County Rd 2 in Hamilton Twp. The suspect(s) had left when officers arrived. Police are looking for a black Jeep-like vehicle that was observed at the scene at the time of the break-in. Investigation ongoing.

Report of a break-in to the Ashbrook Golf Course clubhouse on Dale Rd in Hamilton Twp sometime overnight. The culprit(s) stole a quantity of cash. Investigation ongoing.

Report of a stolen pickup truck from a Hamilton Twp residence on County Rd 2 near Workman Rd. The owner advised that his truck was unlocked and the keys were in the ignition. The truck is a grey 2007 GMC Sierra, half-ton 4×4 with Ontario Licence #5226YJ.

OPP assisted Cobourg Police Service at the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision at Burnham St and Elizabeth St in Cobourg.

OPP were notified of a possible escapee from Warkworth Instituition. Prison officials later located the inmate hiding within the institution and cancelled police involvement.

**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated seven accidental 911 calls, 15 motor vehicle collisions, 31 traffic related complaints and conducted eight RIDE programs during this time period.
