(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 221 incidents during this period, here are some examples:
Oct 11:
A resident on Jean Davey Rd in Hamilton Twp reported his unlocked car rummaged through overnight, no items were taken
Report of the theft of two red 1967 Suzuki motorcycles from a Skye Valley Dr property in Hamilton Twp
Two complaints of a raccoon behaving strangely and not fearful of people near Kent Public School and Pellissier St in Campbellford. Officers attended and destroyed the animal as it posed a danger to the public
At 11:00pm a motorist that was attempting to drive home an intoxicated friend attended the Cobourg detachment for assistance. The woman attempted to kick officers who were in the process of verifying her address. The 25 yr old Cobourg woman was arrested/charged with being intoxicated in a public place and held until sober.
Oct 12:
Police responded to a 911 call at 2:15am at a Colborne home. The resident advised police that she was asleep and had rolled over onto her cell phone causing the emergency call.
A Hamilton Twp landlord reported the theft of several tools by a tenant. After investigation, officers recovered the property at various pawn shops in Cobourg. The tenant, a 34 yr old man, was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods Under $5,000 (two counts). He was released with an impending court date in November 2016.
A Hamilton Twp resident reported posting an item on Kijiji then receiving a cheque from a prospective buyer in an amount higher than agreed upon. The buyer then asked that the excess amount be sent back to them. The caller correctly recognized this as a fraudulent cheque and reported it to police.
Police were called to a Colborne area business for a possible impaired driver. When officers arrived they located the customer and recognized that she was experiencing a medical emergency and was not impaired. EMS attended and transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Oct 13:
Police attended a Port Hope residence to keep the peace while an elderly mother moved property out of her daughter’s residence.
A Cramahe Twp resident reported walking along Brighton-Cramahe Boundary Road with her dog yesterday when another dog appeared from a garage biting her dog. The owner of the aggressive dog drove both the caller and her dog to a veterinarian clinic and paid for treatments to the injured dog. No charges resulted at the request of the caller.
Police responded to a report of two persons arguing and yelling in the parking lot of a Campbellford business on Grand Rd. Officers determined that this was a continuation of an ongoing neighbour dispute. One person had left prior to officers arriving and no charges resulted.
Police investigated a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Elizabeth St in Brighton involving a white Hyundai that rear ended a black Chev car at the traffic lights. The driver of the Hyundai, an 80 yr old US resident from California, was charged with Careless Driving. Minor injuries resulted.
Oct 14: (to noon)
Police responded to a disturbance in Hastings on the bridge at 1:00am. Officers located the persons involved and determined that there had been a disagreement between two groups of fishermen. All were spoken to by police and no charges resulted.
At 1:30am a Brighton resident on Division St North was awakened by her truck alarm caused by a male attempting to break in to the vehicle. He was described as shorter in stature wearing a cammo jacket and blue jeans. The suspect was last seen running east along Richardson St. No items were taken nor was there any damage to the truck.
Report of a stolen purse from an unlocked car sometime overnight on Ontario St in Brighton.
**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated nine accidental 911 calls, eight motor vehicle collisions, 26 traffic related complaints and conducted two RIDE programs during this time period.
