Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 225 incidents during this period, here are some examples:

Oct 24:

Police received an out of province request to check on the well-being of an elderly relative suspected of living in poor conditions in Campbellford. Officers attended the home and found no concerns with her circumstances.

Police were called to a Cramahe Twp home by a parent requesting assistance in getting his teenaged son out of the house to return home. Officers spoke with the youth who returned home with his father.

Northumberland OPP officers assisted with an organ relay on Hwy 401 from a Central Ontario hospital to an Ottawa area hospital.

Oct 25:

A bailiff notified police that they would be repossessing a car located in Hamilton Twp. The next day the owner called police to report it stolen and was advised of the repossession.

A resident on Kelly Rd in Hamilton Twp reported car tires flattened several times over the last month. Investigation ongoing.

A Campbellford area home on County Rd 38 reported a grey Norco BMX style bicycle stolen from the front porch valued at $800.

The owner of a red Chev Cruze reported a fail to remain collision while parked at the Brighton Fire hall on Elizabeth St. The suspect vehicle is described as an older brown Chev pickup truck being driven by an older male described as in his 70’s. Investigation ongoing.

Oct 26:

A Trent Hills youth was charged with Uttering Threats and other offences after an investigation at his home.

Police received two calls reporting suspicious persons canvassing for the Red Cross in Colborne. Officers located the three canvassers and verified that they were associated to that organization.

A member of the Northumberland OPP Traffic Unit stopped a black Mercedes on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area for displaying a 2011 validation sticker. The driver, a 29 yr old Toronto, Ontario man was charged with driving with no current validation on his licence plate, driving with a G1 licence and no accompanying licenced driver plus several other Highway Traffic offences. The car was towed from the highway.

Police and EMS were called to a Cramahe Twp home for an adult daughter reacting to medications given to her by her father. Officers determined that the daughter was experiencing pain from an injury sustained yesterday. Her father decided to give her some OxyContin medication prescribed for another family member that caused her to faint and fall to the floor. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police would like to remind the public that you should only take medications prescribed to you by a physician and not to another person.

Oct 27:

The Colborne Community Care office on King St reported a smashed window that occurred sometime overnight.

CP railway reported a male trespassing on the train tracks south of Workman Rd in Hamilton Twp. Officers patrolled the area but the man was not located.

Police responded to a report of a male breaking into a Seymour Twp home armed with a replica handgun and a knife demanding the homeowner’s car keys. The suspect fled prior to police arriving but was located a short distance away by officers and arrested after a short foot chase. The occupant of the home was not injured. Ivan John DAWSON age 24 of Trent Hills, ON was held for a bail hearing and faces multiple charges:

Assault with A Weapon

Possession of imitation weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm

Robbery with a Weapon

Assault with A Weapon

Break, Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence

Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

Disguise with Intent

**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated five accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 36 traffic related complaints and conducted three RIDE programs during this time period.
