Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers dealt with a variety of calls over this past weekend, here are some examples:

Mar 13: (from noon)

– Officers assisted CAS with a family dispute in Colborne. Female not to have contact with children in home (12:30pm)

– Child playing with phone in Grafton Community Centre dialed 911 (1pm)

– Complaint of grey Nissan weaving in and out of lanes driving aggressively on Hwy 401 eastbound in Port Hope area. OPP airplane located the car and relayed their observations to a ground unit who stopped the vehicle and charged the 21 yr old driver from Mississauga with changing lanes in an unsafe manner.

– At 10:20pm an officer stopped an eastbound car on County Rd 9 near Isaac Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for improper lighting. The driver, a 38 yr old man from the same area was charged with driving while his licence is under suspension and breaching a probation order not to drive. Car impounded for 7 days.

– Police were called to a Trent Hills home to remove a 50 yr old brother from his sister’s home. Officers took him to a hotel for the night.

– Audi A4 clocked at 168 km/h on Hwy 401 Colborne area. The 25 yr old man from Toronto was charged with Stunt Driving – excessive speed, his licence suspended for 7 days and car impounded 7 days (11:30pm)

Mar 14:

– An intoxicated 37 yr old man was arrested in the emergency room at Campbellford hospital (7am) and charged with breaching his bail conditions

– Officers attended a Campbellford home for a domestic dispute over property

– A new tenant in Hastings contacted police after finding 2 urns in their home. Investigation ongoing to determine the owner.

– Ammunition turned into police for destruction in Colborne

– A 56 yr old motorist was charged with driving while under suspension on County Rd 24 Alnwick-Haldimand Twp (5pm)

– A 49 yr old Campbellford resident was apprehended at a Brighton home when he was experiencing a mental health crisis that caused safety concerns for himself and others. A Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) was deployed. The uninjured man was taken to a nearby hospital for a mental health assessment (6:30pm)

– Officers checked areas around Hwy 401 for a suicidal female from Cobourg. Cobourg police located the female and assisted her in obtaining mental health treatment (11:30pm)

Mar 15:

– Report of dogs running loose on George St Warkworth during Maple Festival. Animal Control requested by officers. Two dogs were caught and taken to the Belleville pound. (10:45am)

– A Trent Hills resident reported a suspicious online loan where the company requested $900 for insurance on the loan. No money was given.

– Resident of Alderville First Nations reported trespassers at the end of Vimy Ridge Rd. Officers attended and cautioned the people. Ongoing issue.

– A Colborne resident reported a break in to his home. Medication was the only thing taken. Investigation ongoing.

– Police were called to a Brighton home for an out of control son (17). Officers attended and calmed things down.

– A coach bus with 75 passengers had broken down and requested police assist them with traffic control on Hwy 401 Grafton area while they transferred people to another bus.

Northumberland OPP officers also conducted 10 RIDE programs, investigated 5 motor vehicle collisions, and 30 traffic related complaints plus numerous roadside checks related to the current OPP Distracted Driving campaign.
