(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Mar 27: (from noon)
– Police were notified of a 33 yr old Toronto woman who was attacked by a group of sheep dogs while walking on Academy Hill Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp on March 22. She was bit on her calf and her clothes were ripped. Animal Control and the Health Unit had already been notified. The woman declined to have charges laid. The dog that bit her has been quarantined.
– 86 yr old Cramahe Twp resident signed up for a water treatment system with a monthly fee of $75 and 10 yr commitment. Family members became involved and cancelled the agreement. Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre advised.
– A homeowner reported his County Rd 45 broken in to on Monday Mar 23. (Baltimore area). A Husqvarna chainsaw, an Acer laptop, cash and personal cheques were among the items reported missing. Investigation ongoing.
– Officers responded to nine motor vehicle collisions between 7:30-9:30pm, the majority on Hwy 401 between Cobourg and Colborne. Sudden snow squalls were a contributing factor. No major injuries.
– A Hamilton Twp resident wanted advice to stop her ex-husband from coming to her property. Male had attended to serve child custody papers. He was advised to use a third party or have police present in the future.
Mar 28:
– At 8:40am an officer was patrolling Telephone Rd Cramahe Twp when a vehicle crossed the centre line almost causing a head on collision with the cruiser. The 45 yr old Quinte West man had a cell phone on his lap when stopped by the officer. He was charged under the Distracted Driving legislation, failing to have his insurance card and an expired validation sticker.
– A Oshawa couple were charged with Theft Under $5,000 from a Campbellford grocery store (12noon)
– Police spoke to a Port Hope couple who were arguing over the husband’s drinking. Advice was given. (4:30pm)
– Ladder reported on Hwy 401 Colborne area. Removed prior to police arrival.
– Brighton resident dialed 911 when unlocking phone to check Facebook
– EMS requested police assistance at a Hamilton Twp home for a male ‘off his meds’ hallucinating and violent. Officers attended at which point the male became cooperative. (11:55pm)
Mar 29:
– Report of intoxicated patrons leaving a Brighton business (12:50am). Officers spoke to the group who calmed down and went home.
– A Kingston motorist called 911 twice when he broke down on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area (3am). Officers assisted him in getting a tow company.
– A 21 yr old G1 driver from Aylmer was stopped on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area at 4am. He was charged with three novice driver offences (unaccompanied by a qualified driver, drive on prohibited Hwy (400 series) and drive at an unlawful hour). Arrangements were made to have a properly licenced driver drive them home.
– Police attended a Brighton home at 5am for a domestic dispute. Officers determined that both persons had been drinking. They were separated for the day. No charges resulted.
– Next of Kin notification at a Cramahe Twp home at request of another police agency
– Police attended a Port Hope home for a domestic disturbance between an Oshawa area couple (7pm). Officers determined that they were arguing over their deteriorating relationship of 30 yrs. They were separated for the night. No charges resulted.
– Police responded to a house alarm in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp (11:30pm). The homeowners were in the house at the time and it was determined to be a false alarm
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted three RIDE programs, investigated 14 motor vehicle collisions and 20 traffic related complaints.
