(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples;
May 8: (from noon)
– A Hamilton Twp resident contacted police upset over his neighbour installing security cameras. Officers determined that was within the home owners’ rights and not criminal in nature
– Officers attended a Brighton home where a teenaged son became violent towards family members. He was apparently upset over the upcoming anniversary of the death of another family member. The family was counselled by police, no charges
– Police went to a Campbellford home to notify a witness that she was not required for court in Durham Region
– Police responded to a report of an irate customer at a Brighton gas station. Officers were advised that the customer was upset over a broken gas pump. He was advised to go elsewhere for gas. No charges resulted.
– Police attended a Percy Twp home where a couple were arguing over the husband forgetting to pick up medications for his wife (10pm). All was calm when officers arrived, no charges resulted
– A Queen St Hastings resident reported her house being ‘egged’ (10:45pm)
May 9:
– Report of an intoxicated husband who left his Bewdley residence (on foot) 3 hrs earlier after an argument with his wife over home renovations (12:20am). There was some concern over possible suicidal thoughts. Police initiated a search of nearby trails and wooded areas with the assistance of OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT). The man returned on his own advising officers that he had merely left to ‘cool down’.
– At 1:45am a westbound VW Jetta from Quebec was stopped for travelling 167km/h on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. The 18 yr old driver from Anjou, QUE was charged with stunt driving – excessive speed. His licence was seized and car impounded for seven days. All four occupants from Quebec were taken to a 24hr service station where they had to make arrangements to get back home.
– Police attended a Colborne home at 2:15am to advise the occupants to turn down the music. Caution issued
– Police responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance that occurred the night before in Campbellford. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a 21 yr old Seymour Twp man was arrested and charged with Assault, Mischief Under $5,000, Choking and Breach of Probation X2. He was held for a bail hearing. Names withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
– A Warkworth area resident on County Rd 29 reported the theft of a satellite phone from his unlocked car overnight
– A Brighton resident complained about his neighbour’s lawnmower blowing grass over onto his property
– A 22 yr old Campbellford woman was charged with Mischief Under $5,000 after showing up at her ex-boyfriends residence and kicking in the front door. She was released with certain conditions until her court date. Names withheld.
– Report of a male screaming out of his apt window in Brighton (10pm). Officers determined he was upset over the placement of a satellite dish and calmed down after speaking to police.
May 10:
– At 12:05am officers were conducting a RIDE program on Harwood Rd in Hamilton Twp. A white GMC pickup truck was stopped, evidence of apparent liquor consumption was observed in the area of the driver who was arrested after failing a roadside screening device. He was taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Jeffrey MCKENDRICK age 51 of Hamilton Twp is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle while exceeding 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 27, 2015.
– Driver reported hitting a deer on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area (4:15am), car had to be towed from the scene
– Police were asked by a local hospital to assist in escorting a potentially violent patient to Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s psychiatric ward
– Police spoke to two families who got into an argument at a Campbellford restaurant. Everyone agreed to have no further contact with each other
– A Seymour Twp woman called police to assist her in getting her belongings out of the house after she had an argument with her husband who had been drinking. She advised officers that the argument was over her husband choosing to drink with his friends rather than do something for her on Mother’s Day. Officers stood by while she removed her personal belongings. No charges resulted.
– A Percy Twp resident reported receiving a phone call from an unknown male who threatened to beat him up and steal his medications. Investigation is ongoing.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted six RIDE programs, investigated six motor vehicle collisions and 34 traffic related complaints.
