(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Jun 8:
– Police received a call from a man’s ex-wife worried that he was going to commit suicide after he had sent her several texts. Officers checked the man’s Alnwick-Haldimand Twp residence and found it to be empty. The 41 yr old male was eventually located at the end of a side road several kilometers from his home. He had taken a quantity of medications and was apprehended by officers for his own safety. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he received treatment for his mental health issues
– A Hamilton Twp (Harwood area) resident reported the theft of a marine battery from his boat that was docked on Rice Lake
– Officers were called to a Hamilton Twp home to stand by and keep the peace while a 23 yr old daughter picked up belongings from her mother
– Officers were called to a Brighton home to stand by and keep the peace while a woman collected her belongings from her ex-boyfriend
– A Seymour Twp resident on 6th Line East reported his riding lawnmower stolen the past two weeks. (Massey Ferguson tractor, red with yellow seat) Investigation ongoing

Jun 9:
– A Hastings father contacted police when he noticed that his 38 yr old son was not at home contrary to his bail release conditions. Officers located and arrested the man. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. (12:15am)
– An Elgin St Colborne business reported the theft of an empty trailer sometime overnight described as a 2014 Interstate grey 6’x12′ cargo trailer. Ont Lic# L4956M
– A Hamilton Twp mother reported her 31 yr old son having thoughts of self-harm. Durham Regional Police Service contacted OPP at the same time to advise that they had received the same information from a person in their jurisdiction. Officers located the man in a local conservation area and apprehended him for his own safety. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment
– A 35 yr old Brampton man was stopped for speeding in his black Honda on Hwy 401Brighton area. He was found to have no insurance for the car and was the only occupant. His class G1 licence required him to be accompanied by licenced driver. He was charged accordingly, the car was towed from the highway and he was dropped off at a local service station to make arrangements to get home. (8pm)
– Police responded to a report of a female standing on the County Rd 45 (Cobourg) overpass of Hwy 401 leaning over the railing (11pm). Officers located the 16 yr old female who advised police that she had an argument with her mother and was simply out for a walk. She was re-united with her mother.
Jun 10:
– A Port Hope resident called police to complain about the slow internet service he was getting from his provider. A police officer advised him this was a civil matter, not a police matter
– An 87 yr old Roseneath area man was located several kilometers from his residence where he had driven to and became disoriented. An area resident contacted police recognizing the gentleman possibly suffered from dementia. EMS attended and took him to a nearby hospital. Officers located the man’s wife who picked him up. The family was referred to the Alzheimer Society for help.
– A CAS worker requested assistance in placing a recently apprehended child into an alternate home
– Officers investigated a complaint of threats made to a Hastings resident and determined that the incident did not warrant criminal charges
– Police attended the area of 11th Line East Seymour Twp in response to a report of two aggressive dogs (boxers). The dogs weren’t located by officers and no further calls were received relating to the dogs
Jun 11:
– A red Dodge Dakota pickup truck was ‘clocked’ travelling 135 km/h in a 60 km/h zone at 4:35am on County Rd 45 north of Hwy 401 in Hamilton Twp. The 21 yr old driver from Roseneath was charged accordingly. His licence was suspended for 7 days and his truck impounded for the same period of time.
– A Cramahe Twp resident accidentally dialled 911 when attempting to contact the Humane Society requiring an officer response to ensure her safety
– At the request of Toronto Police, officers notified an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident of an impending court date as a witness
– A Trent Hills father called police worried about his 23 yr old son’s mental health. Officers located the man walking on a nearby concession road and took him to a local hospital for treatment
– A Hamilton Twp resident, who is attempting to sell his home, complained that his neighbour consistently yells at the Real Estate agent and persons viewing the house. An officer spoke to the neighbour and resolved the matter
– Officers assisted EMS at a Hastings residence with an intoxicated/suicidal patient. Paramedics felt threatened resulting in police transporting the 48 yr old man to the hospital for treatment. No criminal charges resulted
– A Bowmanville man dialed 911 while in his boat on Rice Lake. Officers made contact with the man and ensured he was safe
– Police responded to a call from a Hamilton Twp man who had been threatened by his girlfriend’s father. Both men are in their 50’s. The father was apparently upset over the age difference. Police located the father and calmed things down. No charges resulted.
– A Gore’s Landing resident contacted police after noticing her cat had returned home with what appeared to be a wound from a ‘salt gun’. The cat was taken to a veterinarian’s office and was not seriously injured. Investigation ongoing.
– A young girl accidentally dialed 911 from a cell phone while at a bon fire in Brighton causing police and EMS to search the area. Officers located the girl with her family and determined there was no emergency.
– A Roseneath family contacted police when their 12 yr old daughter threatened self-harm. Officers and EMS attended the residence resulting in the youth being taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her mental health issues
Northumberland OPP also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated 10 motor vehicle collisions and 36 traffic related complaints.
