(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:
Jun 12:
– Officers attended a Trent Hills business and apprehended a male who was overheard to be recording a ‘suicide tape’ by patrons. The man was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment with his mental health issues
– A bear was reported walking through the area of County Rd 50 and 10 Line West area of Seymour Twp at 9:00am, no public safety issue at that time
– A King St business in Colborne reported their front window damaged sometime overnight
– Officers assisted in an organ transfer going from a Toronto hospital to an Ottawa hospital along Hwy 401
– Police responded to a Trent Hills home at 11:30pm to a report of a woman screaming for help. After speaking to the female at the home, officers determined that she and a guest were engaged in an activity not requiring further police involvement
Jun 13:
– At 3:48am an officer stopped a Pontiac Grand Prix on County Rd 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for speeding. The officer observed several empty beer cans strewn throughout the vehicle’s compartment and confirmed that the driver had been drinking. The male was arrested after failing a roadside test and taken to the Peterborough OPP detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Garett THOMSON age 35 of Campbellford is charged with Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded .80mg in 100ml of blood. He also faces charges of speeding and driving with no licence. THOMSON was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on June 24, 2015
– A bailiff notified police of a repossessed vehicle in the event the owner made a complaint of a stolen automobile in Percy Twp
– Report of a metal heritage sign at ‘Barnum House’ on County Rd 2 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp stolen sometime in the morning
– A 19 yr old Cramahe Twp man was charged with ‘Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed’ when ‘clocked’ traveling 103 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Purdy Rd at 5:15pm. His licence was suspended for 7 days and his Honda Civic was impounded for same period of time
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a Trent Hills home and were confronted on the front lawn by an injured man with a knife. The male refused to drop the knife as he continued to self-harm. Officers eventually convinced the man to drop the knife. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment for his injuries which were serious in nature but not life threatening. As a result of the ensuing investigation, the man was charged with forcible confinement, Assault and Mischief Under $5,000. Names withheld to protect the identity of the victim who sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Jun 14:
– Police were called to a wedding reception in Brighton at 3:40am where a couple were reportedly fighting. One participant had left prior to officers arriving and the remaining individual was uncooperative with police. Alcohol was a factor and no charges resulted
– A 37 yr old Brighton man was charged with ‘Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed’ after being ‘clocked’ on Hwy 401 in Brighton at 170 km/h (9:00am). His 2014 Toyota Corolla was towed from the scene and impounded for 7 days. His licence was also suspended for the same period of time
– A child rode her bike to a Brighton store and upon returning to the front entrance, discovered her bike missing. Officers arrived and located the bike at the rear entrance where she had left it. No theft.
– 911 ‘pocket dialed’ by a youth from a bus traveling on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area. Officers contacted a parent on the bus and confirmed there was no emergency
Northumberland OPP also conducted nine RIDE programs, investigated 17 motor vehicle collisions and 30 traffic related complaints.
