(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 118 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
Dec 16:
OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) assisted the Cobourg Police Service at the scene of a robbery. The suspect was later arrested at a service centre on Hwy 401 by officers from the OPP Quinte West detachment.
OPP officers responded to a report of a suicidal person in the town of Cobourg as requested by the Cobourg Police Service. The individual was located and determined not to be thinking of self-harm.
Police attended a Campbellford home to keep the peace while an ex-partner picked up some belongings.
Dec 17:
Police were called to a Campbellford business at 2:00am for patrons fighting. All persons had left prior to police arriving. No further complaints were received from the bar or the involved combatants.
Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision at 6:50am on Mastwoods Rd in Port Hope involving a municipal snow plow. The driver advised that his plow caught the edge of a ditch causing the truck to be pulled into the ditch landing on its side. The driver was not injured and no charges resulted.
A Cramahe Twp resident reported an abandoned car close to Lake Ontario. Officers made inquiries with the owner who indicated that a family member might be considering self-harm. That individual was later located in the Brighton area and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Dec 18:
A Brighton senior contacted police for assistance as she had no food or heat and was feeling unwell. Officers attended and made arrangements with a neighbour to plow her driveway and also carried wood into the home for her furnace. EMS transported the elderly resident to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police then notified community agencies that could assist her with day to day activities and healthcare.
A Brighton home on Telephone Rd (west of County Rd 30) was reportedly broken in to between Friday Dec. 16 at midnight and Sunday Dec. 18 at 2:00pm. The home’s front door was forced open and items stolen include an old tin box with military uniform buttons and war medals. Investigation ongoing.
Police responded to a neighbour dispute in Bewdley resulting in an adult female being arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon. She was released with an impending court date in 2017.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated four accidental 911 calls, 20 motor vehicle collisions, 22 traffic related complaints and conducted 16 RIDE programs over the weekend.
