Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls over the weekend, here are some examples:

July 10:

– A resident on Beaver Rd Seymour Twp reported his car’s tires slashed and several mailboxes damaged overnight.

– A farmer reported two of her horses loose in the area of Concession Rd 14 East Percy Twp. An officer located them on a nearby concession road. The owner attended and returned them to their enclosure.

– A known dementia sufferer reported the theft of jewellery from her residence in Seymour Twp. Officers spoke to her son who advised that the items were in the home. The woman’s Alzheimer Society worker from a previous referral by police was notified of the call.

– Four mailboxes smashed on Bannon Rd Seymour Twp at 2:00am. One of the owners chased the suspect(s) who fled in a red car last seen in Warkworth area.

– A homeowner in the Brighton area threatened to shoot himself due to his power being cut off for non-payment. Officers spoke to the man and his wife. He advised the officers he made the comments out of frustration only

– Police assisted EMS who were responding to a female screaming and threatening family members at a Cramahe Twp home. After speaking with the woman, officers apprehended her for her own safety and that of others. She was transported to a nearby hospital then eventually to another facility to receive help for her mental illness.

– A Hamilton Twp resident reported identity theft to police after receiving a call from a credit card company. After calling his bank, he discovered that a male had attended another branch in Brampton and changed his address using identification in his name. The suspect also applied for a line of credit at a jewellery store and a credit card. Police, Equifax and other affected creditors are investigating. No money was lost.

– An 18 month old baby dialed 911 when playing with the phone (Campbellford)

July 11:

– Police responded to a loud party complaint in the area of Oughs Rd and the 4th Line Port Hope at 12:54am. Officers conducted a RIDE program as the party goers left the property.

– Police attended a Port Hope home at 2:33am where a father and son were arguing. Both were advised to go to bed as alcohol was a contributing factor. No charges resulted

– Police attended a Hamilton Twp home at 4:06am in response to a domestic disturbance. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a man was arrested and charged with two counts of domestic assault. He was later released with certain conditions. The victim received minor injuries not requiring medical attention. Names withheld.

– At 7:49am police were called back to the same household where the male had returned despite being on conditions prohibiting him from doing so. The man fled into a wooded area prior to police arriving. The OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K9 were notified and conducted a search of the area along with detachment officers. The man was located and arrested at 11am in the area of County Rd 45 and Dale Road, Hamilton Twp. The victim was not injured as a result of this incident. The man faces further charges of Breach of Undertaking X2, Domestic Mischief X3, Domestic Assault and Unlawfully in a Dwelling. He was held for a bail hearing.

– Police were notified of a patient at the Campbellford Hospital who left in the middle of receiving treatment. Officers located the 26 yr old local man and returned him to staff where he continued to receive help for his mental health issues.

– A grey VW Jetta was stopped Hwy 401Grafton area at 4:29pm for an expired validation sticker and found to not be insured. The car was towed from the scene and the 35 yr old Toronto man was charged accordingly

– A grey Dodge Caravan was stopped on Hwy 401 in the Colborne area at 5:51pm and the driver was found to have a suspended licence. The van was towed from the scene and the 61 yr old Cramahe Twp man was charged accordingly

July 12:

– Noise complaint in Harwood involving a live band at 12:11am. Officers advised the owners to cease the music. No further calls received

– Noise complaint Sandy Bay Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp, loud party at 12:38am. Officers advised the party goers to shut things down. No further calls received

– Noise complaint on Cold Springs Camp Rd Port Hope also at 12:38am. Large wedding celebration. All was quiet when officers arrived

– 9 yr old son of a military employee played with his father’s work phone and dialed 911 from their Brighton home. No emergency

– Police were called to a Campbellford residence in response to a complaint of an assault. After investigation, officers charged a 67 yr old woman for assaulting her neighbour. The dispute apparently stemmed from an incident yesterday involving their dogs. She was released with an impending court date.

– Police were called to a Brighton nursing home when one resident struck another resident with a cane. The offender was cautioned for assault and the victim was uninjured.

– A Brighton resident was cautioned for scaring away seagulls with his pellet gun

– A Brighton parent called police when his 12 yr old child had a temper tantrum. Officers provided him with some parenting advice.

Northumberland OPP also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated seven motor vehicle collisions and 44 traffic related complaints.
