(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend; here are some examples:
Oct 16:
– A blue Ford pickup truck was stopped on Hwy 401 in the Cobourg area. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s licence and no proof of insurance. The 31 year old Markham man was charged accordingly and his truck towed from the scene
– Police were called to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp home where a separated couple were arguing about child custody issues. All people were given advice and no charges resulted.
– Police were called by CN regarding a malfunctioning railway crossing arm on Prince Edward St in Brighton. Officers stood by for public safety until a crew attended and repaired the arm.
– Police were called to a Trent Hills home when an intoxicated man wanted to show another occupant how easy it was to call 911 from his cell phone. Officers spoke to the man about misusing the emergency system taking police from more urgent matters
Oct17:
– Police attended a Hamilton Twp home at 1:15am when the residents heard banging on their garage door. Officers patrolled the area and spoke to the callers who unfortunately waited 40min to call police. No suspicious persons were found and no further noises were heard.
– A Hamilton Twp resident complained about being harassed by an ex-girlfriend on Facebook. Officers spoke to both persons and advised them to stop any communication between each other. No charges resulted
– Police attended a Brighton home when a son couldn’t contact his elderly father on the phone. Officers determined the senior had been on the phone for an extended period of time and passed along a message to call his son.
– Officers stood by while a tenant attempted to pick up property from an ex landlord in Seymour Twp. Both were advised to seek out a civil lawyer to settle the dispute.
Oct 18:
– A Campbellford gas station reported the theft of $45 worth of gas at 9:30am. The suspect vehicle is described as a black mid-sized car last seen southbound on Front St N. Investigation ongoing.
– A 21 yr old Seymour Twp man was charged with being intoxicated in a public place after police received a call about someone causing a disturbance at the Campbellford skate park. He was held at the Campbellford detachment until sober.
– Police were called to a Brighton home for an alarm. Officers found the residence to be secure and no-one home
– Police responded to a Trent Hills home where two teenagers were fighting. Officers determined that it was a consensual fight resulting in minor injuries. No charges resulted.
Northumberland OPP also responded to 13 accidental 911calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions and 38 traffic related complaints.
