Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Officers from the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls over this past holiday weekend, here are some examples:

Dec 23:

Report of a male hitchhiking on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area. Officers located the man and removed him from the highway.

A customer purchased a ‘PAY POWER pre-paid Visa card’ at a Brighton grocery store in the amount of $500. During the online activation process, she was informed that someone else had already accessed the funds. The woman filed a report with police who received little co-operation from the company. The officer informed the grocery store of the unresolved outcome which led them to remove all PAY POWER pre-paid cards from their shelves.

Police received a call about a man ‘passed out’ in the front lobby of a Colborne apartment building. The intoxicated man was taken home by officers.

Dec 24:

Police continue to deal with trespassers at a Hydro One property near Marydale Park Rd and Wallace Wood Rd in Port Hope. Three adults were charged with trespassing and one car was towed from the scene. Officers will continue regular patrols and take enforcement action when necessary.

Report of a capsized boat on Brighton Bay. It was determined that the canoe had broken free from a dock then washed ashore on Cedar Lane.

Report of a container broken into at a new home subdivision near Van Luven Rd Baltimore. A number of stored household items were taken sometime between Tuesday Dec 22nd and Dec 24th.

Dec 25:

Report of loud music from a residence in Hastings shortly after midnight. Officers cautioned the homeowner who turned the music down

A military marine marker was located at the Lake Ontario shoreline in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp and was returned by officers to military personnel.

Officers were called to assist the Brighton Fire Department with an elderly resident who had fallen. Police attended and found that firefighters had already gained access to the home and assisted the man.

Dec 26:

Police were called to a Campbellford home where a separated couple were arguing. Several pictures were broken with alcohol being a contributing factor. No charges resulted.

Emergency responders attended a Brighton home where a resident had intentionally overdosed on prescription medications. She was taken by EMS to a nearby hospital for treatment

A vehicle passenger stopped at a RIDE check in Brighton was charged with having open liquor (2pm)

Dec 27:

Police received a driving complaint of a black Mercedes weaving in and out of traffic at 11:18am on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. The 37 yr old Toronto area driver was charged with driving while his licence was under suspension and the car was towed from highway.

Police spoke to a Campbellford resident who was having a disagreement with an ex-partner over child custody issues. No charges resulted

Report of a home on Crandall Rd in Colborne being ‘egged’. Patrols were made but the suspect(s) were not located. The OPP would like to remind the public that this type of vandalism can result in criminal charges of Mischief Under $5,000 being laid.

Dec 28:

Police are investigating a report of threats made at a church in Trent Hills

Report of two missing teenagers in the Castleton area lost in a 50ac wood lot. Officers were speaking to the parents when the youths were located on a nearby road. They advised officers that although they were unfamiliar with the area, they believed their dog would be able to guide them back from their walk but it failed to do so

Port Hope Police Service requested assistance from OPP officers in locating a suicidal female threatening self-harm. They located the female prior to OPP involvement and provided her with assistance

Northumberland OPP officers also conducted 18 RIDE programs, investigated 12 accidental 911 calls, 25 motor vehicle collisions and 56 traffic related complaints.
