(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:
Jan 8:
Police were received an emergency notification from a vehicle equipped with OnStar. Officers located the car at a farm in Hamilton Twp along with the owner who advised police that it was accidental
Police responded at an assault complaint which occurred at the Onroute service centre in Port Hope between two tractor-trailer drivers arguing over a parking spot. The other truck was gone when officers arrived. Minor assault, caller did not wish to have charges laid.
A Baltimore store called police when an employee found an envelope containing cash ($200). The owner returned to the store and retrieved the money prior to police attending.
Police attended a Port Hope residence where a couple were arguing over whether or not to listen to music when running at a sports club function. No charges resulted and the couple spent the night in different rooms for night.
Jan 9:
A youth at a Campbellford residence was charged with assaulting another youth at the residence. Minor injuries occurred.
Officers investigated a harassment complaint involving an ex-partner of a Colborne resident. A man was spoken to by police, no criminal charges resulted.
An elderly Brighton resident was charged with driving while his licence was under suspension for medical reasons. He and the car owner were also charged in relation to having no insurance.
A Percy Twp man reported losing his hockey bag containing goalie equipment somewhere between Norwood and Warkworth. The bag had fallen out of the back of his pickup truck.
Jan10:
Emergency services responded to a Hamilton Twp home shortly after midnight when a resident returned home and found an elderly man lying at the end of her driveway partially on the roadway. Paramedics transported the heavily intoxicated man to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was not injured and officers surmised that he had simply ‘passed out’ from alcohol consumption.
Police responded to a truck partially submerged in a pond near County Rd 18 and Curtis Point Rd in Alderville First Nation shortly before 1:00am. Officers located the unoccupied red GMC Sierra truck with a brick placed on the accelerator pedal. The truck was determined to be stolen from a residence 5km away, the investigation is ongoing.
Several weather related calls due to high winds. Trees reported down across roads on Percy Boom Rd (Trent Hills), Rice Lake Dr N, Oliver’s Ln and Crossen Rd (Hamilton Twp). Five motor vehicle collisions reported between 7-8pm in southern half of the County, none resulting in injuries to those involved.
Northumberland OPP officers conducted 12 RIDE programs, investigated 9 accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions and 28 traffic related complaints.
