Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:

Apr 22:

An officer was flagged down by a citizen on County Rd 45 in Alderville First Nations and advised of a female motorist slumped over the wheel of a car. She was located and found to be merely sleeping, no further action was required.

Police investigated a domestic related assault complaint that had occurred earlier in April at a Port Hope residence. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a 38 yr old Cobourg man is charged with Spousal Assault. He was released with an impending court date.

Officers responded to a report of spousal assault and sexual offences at a Cramahe Twp home. After a thorough investigation, officers determined that no offences had been committed and that the caller suffered from a deteriorating medical condition resulting in the unfounded allegations being made.

Apr 23:

Report of a break in to an antique business on Purdy Rd in Cramahe Twp at 12:30am. The suspect(s) took a small safe, an ATM, a donation box for ‘Big on Beagles’ and a quantity of collectable bills ($). The investigation is ongoing and the OPP is requesting anyone with information on this crime contact the Brighton OPP detachment at 613-475-1313 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Theft of a green Craftsman LT1000 lawn tractor reported from a River Rd Seymour Twp property sometime over the past three weeks

Report of a male in a car slumped over the wheel at the Seymour Conservation Area in Campbellford. He was located and subsequently charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance; Cocaine and Possession of a Schedule II substance; Cannabis Marihuana – under 30g. The 28 yr old Peterborough man was released with an impending court date.

Apr 24:

Report of two dead calves being ‘dumped’ in front of a property on Victoria Beach Rd in Cramahe Twp sometime this weekend. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) was notified for follow-up.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a Brighton home where a father had returned home intoxicated and violent. As a result of the ensuing investigation, the man was charged with Spousal Assault and assaulting another family member. He was released with an impending court date and conditions to remain away from the residence as well as family members.

An officer assisted a stranded motorist at 11:30pm on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area with changing a flat tire.

Northumberland OPP officers also conducted four RIDE programs, investigated four accidental 911 calls, three motor vehicle collisions and 27 traffic related complaints.
