(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:
**April 29, 2016: A 62 yr old Hasting woman was walking in the Ganaraska Forest with her dog and became disoriented. After two hours of attempting to find her way out, she contacted police (2:13pm) who used her cell phone GPS coordinates to locate her position. Officers on ATVs advised her to stay where she was and eventually located her 4.5 kms from her starting point on County Rd 45 Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. She (and her dog) were found to be in good health and driven out of the forest by police to her car.
May 13:
A hunter reported the theft of four camo coloured blinds and four Timber Ridge camo chairs from properties on Farini & Ganaraska Roads in Port Hope.
Police assisted an OSPCA officer who was seizing kittens at a Brighton home. Investigation ongoing by that agency.
A 35 year old Toronto driver in a 2016 Mitsubishi was measured traveling 145 km/h on Hwy 401 Brighton. He was found to be driving with a suspended licence and was charged accordingly.
Report of a farm tractor set on fire on Northumberland Heights Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp sometime overnight. Damages estimated at $20,000
May 14:
Two calls were received after midnight reporting a noisy house party on County Rd 10 in Port Hope. Officers attended and instructed the owners to shut the party down. A subsequent check of departing vehicles resulted in an 18 year old Hamilton Twp man being charged with having open liquor in his vehicle and driving without proof of insurance. No further calls were received.
At 2:33am a silver Mercedes Benz was stopped at a RIDE check on the Hwy 401 off ramp to the Port Hope Onroute service centre. As a result of failing a roadside test, the driver was taken to the Cobourg OPP detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Karen Elizabeth WILLIAMS age 50 of Port Hope, Ontario is charged with Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 25, 2016.
A 20 month old child accidentally dialed 911 from her father’s cell phone causing two officers to attend their Campbellford home to ensure everyone’s safety.
Report of a home on Mill St in Warkworth being broken in to while the owner had been hospitalized the past week. A quantity of medications, cash and jewellery were taken including approximately $3,000 in toonies and a diamond tennis bracelet valued at $1,800. Investigation ongoing.
May 15:
At 2:30pm an officer conducting radar enforcement on Hwy 401in Brighton measured two vehicles apparently travelling together at a high rate of speed. A white Ford Freestyle was measured at 173 km/h and a blue Subaru at 175 km/h. Both vehicles were stopped resulting in a 32 yr old South Frontenac Twp woman and a 54 yr old Scarborough man being charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and impounded for 7 days. Both drivers face a 7 day licence suspension and an impending court date in July 2016.
Police responded to a report of a Hamilton Twp man threatening self-harm. He was located in Cobourg and taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Report of a stolen travel trailer from a County Rd 65 property in Port Hope over the last two days, described as a 31’ 2014 white Shasta SHT trailer bearing Ont. Lic. L6033E and V.I.N. 5ZT2SHRB3EE002789. Evidence was collected at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted three RIDE programs, investigated three accidental 911 calls, four motor vehicle collisions and 32 traffic related complaints.
