(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls on the Victoria Day long weekend. Here are some examples:
May 20:
A Trent River Rd (Seymour Twp) resident interrupted thieves stealing her car from her driveway at 2am. The two teenaged male suspects were last seen running easterly. Officers attended and were unable to locate the culprits. Several residents also reported their unlocked vehicles being rummaged through in the morning with items such as loose change and a GPS being taken
A 23 yr old man was apprehended by police at Ferris Provincial Park after threatening self-harm. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment
Police responded to a Brighton home for a domestic dispute where the caller had locked herself in a bathroom. Officers determined that the couple had been arguing over their relationship and no criminal offences had been committed. They were separated for the day
Police investigated a report of threats made by a patron towards another patron at an Alderville First Nations business. No charges resulted and the suspect was cautioned at the request of the victim
Two tractor trailers collided at 1:53am spilling debris across three lanes of eastbound Hwy 401 shutting the highway down for approximately three hours between Wesleyville Rd and Toronto Rd, Port Hope. The one driver, a 53 yr old Quebec man, was charged with Careless Driving
May 21:
A 30 yr old Brighton man was arrested at 12:15am for breaching his bail conditions by consuming alcohol. He was held for a bail hearing
Property dispute between neighbours in Hamilton Twp. Officers directed both home owners to contact the township with their concerns
Car fire reported in the Port Hope area of Hwy 401 near Theatre Rd. No injuries. Westbound lanes closed for approx. 30min to allow the Fire Dep’t to extinguish the fire. Minor damages to the asphalt.
Officers were called to the bridge in Hastings to settle a dispute between two fishermen over their fishing lines crossing. Advice was given.
May 22:
Police assisted a 19 yr old Hamilton Twp man who had overdosed on alcohol. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police arrested a 26 yr old Oshawa man for being intoxicated at Presqu’ile Provincial Park after several noise complaints were lodged with park officials. He was held at the Brighton OPP detachment until sober
A 22 yr old Seymour Twp man was charged with Assault with a weapon, Mischief Under $5,000 and Breaching a probation order and a 23 yr old Campbellford man was charged with Assault with a weapon and breaching his bail conditions after an early morning fight erupted between the two of them. Minor injuries to both combatants who were released with a court date in June 2016.
Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Hamilton Twp home resulting in one partner being arrested for Spousal Assault.
May 23:
Complaint of a loud party at a Dale Rd residence in Hamilton Twp at 3:47am. Officers found the home to be in darkness and all was quiet. No further calls were received
Police were called to the emergency room of the Campbellford hospital to assist staff with an out of control youth who had been receiving treatment for a mental health illness. Officers transported him to another area hospital for continuing treatment in a more appropriate facility.
Citizen traveling on Hwy 401 reported a possible plane crash in the Port Hope area. Officers confirmed that the yellow Cessna had landed safely on a small landing strip in the Marydale Park Rd area.
A homeowner on Sandy Flats Rd in Percy Twp reported a rock thrown through the front picture window. Investigation ongoing.
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated 11 accidental 911 calls, nine motor vehicle collisions and 52 traffic related complaints.
