Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend. Here are some examples:

May 26:

A 2015 Dodge Charger was measured to be traveling 162 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Ganaraska Rd Port Hope. A 28 yr old Brampton man was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed. His car was impounded and licence suspended for seven days. He has an impending court date in July 2016.

May 27:

Police were called at 4:10am to a Hamilton Twp home where a couple had been arguing. No criminal charges resulted and one partner was taken elsewhere for the night

A seasonal property owner on Rylstone Rd Seymour Twp reported the theft of a green Liberty ‘mosquito magnet’, a black 8.8hp Mercury outboard engine and a green tackle box from his garage over the past five days

Police attended a Port Hope residence when one neighbour complained about another neighbour cutting down shrubs and trees on public land. Advice was given

May 28:

Police received a 911 call at 2:54am from a female who only stated ‘I have an idiot boyfriend’ then hung up. Several attempts to contact the female to clarify the call were unsuccessful. The call came from a Hamilton Twp cell tower.

Break and enter reported to a vegetable market on County Rd 2 in Port Hope. The front door was kicked in and a quantity of cash was stolen. A nearby chip truck also reported being entered via a window. A quantity of cash was also taken. Evidence was collected at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Two home owners on Cornish Hollow Rd and Ontario St in Hamilton Tw reported damage to their lawns caused by a vehicle sometime overnight

A Trent Hills father called 911 to report that his son was leaving items lying around the house and not cleaning up after himself. Officers provided the dad with some parenting advice as well as spoke to him about the proper use of the emergency line

May 29:

Report of a man in a car with what appeared to be a handgun on Lynden Ct in Hamilton Twp. Officers located the 18 yr old Brampton man in possession of a pellet gun. He was cautioned and no criminal charges resulted.

Four adults were charged with trespassing on private property on Wallace Wood Rd in Port Hope

Report of a break-in to a home on Mills Rd Brighton on Saturday (May 28, 2016) while the owners were having a yard sale. Approximately $10,000 of jewellery taken. Investigation ongoing

Report of a break-in to a home on County Rd 24 Alnwick-Haldimand Twp between 1-3:00pm today. Jewellery taken. Investigation ongoing.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated six accidental 911 calls, nine motor vehicle collisions and 35 traffic related complaints.
