(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 192 incidents from Friday to Sunday; here are some examples from this past weekend:
June 10:
Theft of donation box reported from the Goodrich Loomis Conservation building on Pinewood School Rd in Brighton.
Theft of front licence plate Ont. Lic. #AN66272 reported from a County Rd 65 residence in Port Hope
A grey Chev Malibu was stopped at a RIDE check on County Rd 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp at 9:41pm. The ensuing investigation resulted in the driver, a 23 year old Bridgenorth man and his passenger, a 23 year old Whitby man both being charged with Possession of a Schedule I substance; ecstasy – for the purpose of trafficking and Possession of a Schedule II substance; cannabis marihuana under 3kg – for the purpose of trafficking. A quantity of cash was seized and both accused were released with an impending court date in July 2016.
A reported break-in to a home on Haig’s Reach Rd in Seymour Twp. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked front door and stole medications. Police would like to remind the public that the first step to guarding your property starts with locked doors and windows.
June 11:
Report of a stolen dog in the Dale Rd area of Hamilton Twp. The owner called back to say that his dog had been located and not stolen.
Report of a purse being stolen from an unlocked car at 10:47am while parked in the area of the Campbellford Post Office. ID, credit cards, cash and an older style flip phone were taken.
Police were called to two family disputes, one in Colborne involving a father and son; the other in Percy Twp between a grandfather and his grandson. No charges resulted in either argument and advice was provided.
A video was circulating on social media reporting a cougar sighting in the Grafton area. Subsequent inquiries by police revealed that it was an old video from 2014 when this event had occurred.
June 13:
Three alarms reported to police caused by high winds in the early morning hours, two in Brighton and one in Colborne.
A motorist reported hitting a deer at 4:13am while traveling on Hwy 401 east of Wesleyville Rd in Port Hope. The driver was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Officers provided traffic control for the Trent Hills Fire Dep’t at a residential fire on Market St in Campbellford. No injuries were reported.
A blue Mazda reported stolen from the Oshawa area was found destroyed by fire near the Marydale Park Rd area of Port Hope. Investigation ongoing.
A Ford Explorer stolen from a Roseneath address sometime overnight was found stuck in the mud and destroyed by fire near hydro lines on Turk Rd in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp.
**Notable Incidents: Northumberland OPP investigated nine accidental 911 calls, 15 motor vehicle collisions, and conducted three RIDE programs.
