Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 201 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

June 17:

A youth was charged with Mischief Under $5,000 and Assault in relation to an incident at a Trent Hills home.

A blue Mitsubishi was stopped on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. The driver, a 24 yr old Cambridge, Ontario man was found to be driving with a suspended licence. A subsequent search of the car uncovered a quantity of marihuana. He was also charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance; Cannabis Marihuana under 30g as was his passenger, a 26 y old Lynden, Ontario man. Both were released with an impending court date in August 2016.

A vehicle owner reported the theft of clothing, an Apple iPod and cash from her truck while it was parked at the commuter lot on County Rd 25 in Colborne. Although locked, the vehicle’s windows had been left partially down.

A baby fawn wandered into a seasonal community on Island Park Rd in Seymour Twp causing residents to call police. Officers noted that the fawn appeared healthy and let it continue its apparent search for its mother.

June 18:

Report of a large ‘bush party’ on Leach Rd in Hamilton Twp. Police dispersed the crowd and the Hamilton Fire Dep’t extinguished a large fire made of tires and skids.

A 34 yr old local man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place in downtown Brighton at 8pm.

Police attended a Hamilton Twp home in response to a report of a resident threatening self-harm. Officers located the intoxicated resident who was distraught over a recent separation. EMS took her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

June 19:

A RIDE program on Crowe River Rd in Seymour Twp at 1:30pm resulted in Bernard GRAVES age 52 of Campbellford, Ontario being charged with Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 6, 2016.

Staff at the Colborne LCBO alerted police to an intoxicated customer who was refused service at 2:30pm. Officers located the man driving his black Honda Civic near his residence. As a result, Gregory EAMES age 50 of Brighton, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on July 5, 2016.

**Notable Incidents: Northumberland OPP also investigated 12 accidental 911 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, and conducted four RIDE programs over this time period.
