Do you realize if council allowed independent cameras back in the Public and Press gallery, North Huron would be considered 100% transparent? It’s the last thing on the checklist that many have fought years for in an effort to achieve 100% transparency.
Budgets and agenda packages are online.
Live streaming of council and budget meetings.
Switched to the Ombudsman for the closed meeting investigator.
Recording and archiving of closed meetings for the Ombudsman.
The gains that have been made are enormous and something the entire Community should be proud of. North Huron proudly became the 18th Municipality to record and archive closed sessions of council. Note there are over 440 Municipalities in Ontario. Sadly at the same meeting the Public and Press were banned from filming/recording future meetings.
I hope council will reconsider allowing independent cameras at council meetings, as achieving 100% transparency is something virtually no other municipality has accomplished.
Isn’t achieving 100% transparency more important than vindictively banning the entire Public and Press from filming a Public meeting in a Public place because you are grumpy with the way someone edited footage?
NOTE: It is far easier and quicker for WFP to download the video from YouTube and do the exact same thing, so banning cameras will have zero impact.
North Huron Council, please reconsider allowing the Public and Press to record council meetings again, as headlines like “Most Transparent Municipality” and “NH Achieves 100% Transparency” are far better for our Community than constant Nazi references and comparisons.
